Traditionally, that honour goes to the third Monday in January, according to the formula: where W=weather, d=debt, D=monthly salary, T=time since Christmas, Q=time since the failure of new year's resolutions, M=low motivational levels, and Na=the feeling of a need to take action.

Trouble is, somebody always is, and they have a camera. Most of the people I know who hate dancing were traumatised by having their early attempts heckled. If there is one good thing about punk, it is that it took the narcissism out of dancing. Edited December 8, 2021 by MakemineVanilla

I never could dance for shit, but with hindsight, I regret the demise of formal, ballroom-style dancing ('Strictly' remains an armchair spectator sport). And it was my generation that killed it, substituting a narcissistic solo gyrating for the rather elegant (and let's face it, sexy) older styles. My wife has a post Xmas time off work physical meltdown and gets seemingly the worst cold known to man so she's in bed by about 8, means I get a free hit to absolutely off my tits drunk with no complaining, I liked to sit on the balcony and watch the nutters set off and incredible amount of fireworks in conditions that would not be described as safe (basically stuff fireworks in an empty beer crate, light and hope for the best) but last year and this year they banned fireworks cos of the rona, banned them from sale to make sure its followed I'll probably be in bed at 10 As for Xmas... Nah its a great, too much food, too much beer, the day off work... The 2 weeks off work is the best thing about Xmas overall, not fussed by the presents, I can imagine loving the food goes a long way in to enjoying the day, growing up I had bacon sarnies in the morning, full turkey dinner for lunch and then a party buffet at my grans on the night, I'm well in to all of that, brown bread rolls with tinned salmon on them and too much butter? Must be Xmas at my grans

Whenever I hear Stuart Maconie getting nostalgic about Wigan Casino, I always wonder whether I would have found the experience, therapeutic or traumatic. I am extremely confident I would have **** loved it. Regrettably long before my time, but a scene with a very good combination of music and drugs IMO. Kind of this, due to age I now look at NYE as a countdown to my ultimate demise rather than a celebration

Good day on the tv sport wise but that’s about it. Couple of days later it’s back to work , which can be depressing, but I always find once I’ve done that first day at work it seems like Xmas and NYE are a distant memory.
