Zatman
I think has been mentioned in another thread but maybe an open discussion about it. Think its hard to look past Roger Federer he is such an immense athlete and still going at 37. For example he is 8 months older than John Terry and Tennis is a more physically demanding sport than Football. Just incredible Other names to be included could be Gretzky, Serena Williams and if they keep it up consistently for another 6 or 7 years Ronaldo and Messi

sne
Sadly I suspect many potential athletes to this list will have been doped, even those who officially wasn't caught. Then again the ones they were competing against were likely doped as well
Dr_Pangloss
Federer definitely up there, revolutionised his sport and in many ways still continues to do so at an extremely advanced age for a tennis player.
VT Supporter Tegis Posted July 13, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted July 13, 2019 For pure athleticism, its hard to look past a decathlete. The number of grueling and technical abilities they go through is astounding. Some of them are so good they would compete with the specialist in a discipline. For a competitor, so utterly and massively ahead of the rest of the pack, past and present. I have to give it to Gretzky. Size and speed wasn't needed for him, just plain excellence.

villa4europe
And surprised no one has said Phelps yet Swimming isn't up there as a sport which I appreciate, not even a fan of it myself but he has so many medals And what adam Peaty is doing is pretty incredible, to not only be that fast but to keep breaking in his own record in the manner that he is (he had all top 10 quickest times ever recorded at one point) Edited July 13, 2019 by villa4europe
El Zen
I am completely in awe of the athletic abilities of olympic gymnasts, but I don’t know who to nominate as I haven’t the first clue about the sport. First names to pop into my head were Jordan and Ali. Not a fan of either sport, but they were freakishly good athletes.
Davkaus
I find it interesting that the quickest sprinters and swimmers always get a mention in these kind of topics, but never those who excel at strength based activities. Presumably because they don't look as conventionally athletic. Deadlifting 500kg is absolutely insane though. It's the most anyone has ever lifted, and he beat the world record by 35kg. The previous record holder? Himself, set earlier the same day. Edited July 13, 2019 by Davkaus

Honestly he shifted the sport forward leaps and bounds, there had never been a player as good as him and all of the top players in tennis since 2005 (so Nadal, Djokovic, Murray etc) are IMO stylistically a response to him, so he thus changed how tennis was played. He's still very successful at an age that is unheard of for a tennis player and in someways playing some of his best tennis, keeping points short like no one else does against the very best.
