There would be no shortage of takers and he'd probably be paid double at least what he's getting here. Playing a 46 game season in the Championship isn't an easy payday Thing is though he probably won't play 46 games or anywhere near that.
Popular Post BOF Posted July 3, 2017 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted July 3, 2017 Well now that he's here I may as well post. Firstly, welcome John Terry. Definitely one of the highest profile signings we've made in my time supporting the club. Hopefully he has enough in those legs to help get us out of this league. His reading of the game, his professionalism and his desire to win will have a positive effect on everyone at the club, you would think. Of course it does remain to be seen exactly how many games he'll be able to play. Hopefully Steve Bruce will amend his training regime accordingly, so as to maximise the amount of game days he can take part in. Turning down offers from a higher league WBA and more money at sha should be enough to remind those 2 where they sit in the Midlands pecking order, although I suspect deep down they never need any reminding, and they never will. The other thing about bringing Terry in is the statement it makes to other prospective purchases. All of a sudden, players will look at us and think 'I wouldn't mind playing alongside John Terry for a season' or 'If he thinks they're worth a shot then maybe I do too'. This season is all about getting (up) out of this league. I think Terry, both in the tangible and the intangible sense, makes that a much more likely possibility. We were arguably the strongest squad on paper beforehand, definitely one of the strongest. With Terry's addition, I think we may have just become a whole lot stronger.
Popular Post Brumerican
There could be games where Terry and Baker play together. You could see the world record for most knee height headers attempted in a game.

No mate not having a dig at all at Bruce. I just think it's odd that a manager who is already under tremendous pressure to get Villa promoted this season signs someone who might be the fore runner to take his place if sacked. Surely that's only going to increase the pressure on Bruce?
Dr_Pangloss
He's probably already a better manager than Bruce, especially given he won the Champions League for Chelsea . Terry IN. Edited July 3, 2017 by Dr_Pangloss

We could do with another centre half with a bit of pace TBH.

Is he still worth 60,000 per week in the Championship? For that kind of money at this level you'd want him to be a near ever-present throughout the campaign. I'd be so happy to be proved wrong, but I really can't bring myself to feel the excitement that most fans have for this signing. Time will tell I guess! If it makes you feel any better, Huddersfield got promoted with a 35 year old Dean Whitehead spearheading their midfield, Brighton had arguably the best right back in the league and captain, Bruno, who is 36. Whilst I do share some reservations around how many games Terry can actually play, this could equally be a bit of a masterstroke.

Genie
This is like Christmas come early for the never happy brigade in Villa's fan base. One of the most successful English players ever has chosen to join Villa. I'm really pleased the club have pulled this off.
Infinte_Pest
thats what they said on the intro , no sign yet , perhaps I misheard , I thought they said something along the lines of " Bruce talking about beating off other teams ( no sophomoric giggling in the back) and Arry about missing out"

Stevomanila
Welcome JT, agree with BOF's post above essentially. Who is next?!? Hopefully it could lead us to bring in a few promising loan deals too if money is indeed a little tighter for us this coming season...
