villaglint
Last stat. In Bruce's last season with Snodgrass in Championship he played 14 games RW, 8 games LW, 6 games AM and 1 as a Secondary Striker.
Stevo985 Posted August 22, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) Adomah, Elmo and Snodgrass can all play left wing. Snodgrass is a bit of a utility signing, much like Elmo. Offers cover in a number of positions Does seem strange that we're not signing a dedicated LW. But I guess if Bruce sees Green as a starter there, then we have plenty of options to cover for injury (including Grealish when he's back even though I don't like him playing there) Edited August 22, 2017 by Stevo985

Dr_Pangloss
Grealish spends too much time on the ball to be all that effective centrally IMO.
rodders0223
LW, AM, RW. It doesn't matter...he would be a great signing and would provide competition and options right across the front three.

Hourihane was playing box to box on Saturday not attacking midfield or a role that Jack ever plays. Granted they may find themselves competing for a place but it's a different shape. Same goes for Onomah it was clearly box to box on Sat as opposed to 10 against Reading and end of Hull game and the difference it made was huge. Playing as a 10 is a very specialised role and requires dropping into gaps and being comfortable with defenders at your back that is not Hourihane or Onomah. I agree though that it's Jacks best position. Whether we ever see the best of him in it is a different story.

I agree Jack would play that role differently, i.e. as more of a number 10 than an AM, but it would still be Hourihane that he would be competing with in terms of selection if played centrally. villaglint
I think the heat maps would prove you right! But I think that is down to how well he played and the energy he showed to get into more advanced areas. I still believe he was always facing the game and coming on to the ball rather than vice versa. As I said I agree with the last two points you made so it's semantics really. I just don't see Hourihane as a 10 I think he's a very effective box to box midfielder. I think I'm just worried after Saturday Bruce will be thinking like you and I'll be seeing Hourihane trying to flick on headers to Hogan! sexbelowsound
I'm impressed that you guys actually have strong opinions on Grealish's best position because I haven't got a clue where he is best positioned. On another note, I went to Arsenal vs Man City u23s last night. I'm not sure if the rumours on Wilshire have disappeared or not but that game pretty much summed him up. He bossed the game with excellent bursts from midfield and a wonderful array of passing but capped it all off by getting rattled, being given a straight red for reacting to a bad tackle and then starting a ruck in the tunnel.
Lerner's Driver
Snodgrass may have struggled at WHAM, but as we all know, players don't always fit the club's they join, so if he signs, I won't be writing him off as garbage before he's even kicked a ball, not least because he has performed under Bruce before. I hope he does join, as I think he will be an asset and I've just lumped a ton on him.
Lord Willard
Hmmm, why are we buying another player with no sell on value?? (That is if it is Snodgrass)

I think a number 10 role is his best position, he lacks pace to be a winger and he is too lightweight for the middle of the park plus he takes far too long on the ball so he would be a total liability in central midfield.

Skills
funny how most on here don't know enough of Snodgrass to know his true position, but then have a strong opinion if he's a good signing or not... for what its worth, I seen him take a penalty with his left foot
