The only thing I don't like is that he says he won't follow the Man Citeh mode of burning money. If we are to be top 3 in the world then burn money we must! Other than that 9 out of 10 from me. I still think I am dreaming all this in some sort of coma from a car accident I haven't realised happened yet.

I think it's important that we're not following that template. It can't be sustainable long term and I think as soon as Mansour (or whatever his name is) gets bored of Citeh he'll leave them to it and sell them on to whoever fancies a punt.

Back from my self imposed absence although I might have had a few peeks.

After all the depressing crap around the club under that useless stupid American I'm over the moon that he's gone. I'm going to enjoy that feeling while welcoming Dr Tony Xia to VP....I hope you are bloody stinking rich because you're going to need deep pockets to sort out the mess left behind by Lerner & co.

Welcome.

Aston Villa: Steve Hollis explains how the Tony Xia takeover was done and talks about the future of the club
14:51, 19 MAY 2016 UPDATED 14:54, 19 MAY 2016
BY GREGG EVANS
The Villa chairman talks about new owner Tony Xia, as well as the past, present and the future

Steve Hollis has been answering questions on the Villa takeover.

Steve Hollis met with reporters today to discuss the bright new future at Aston Villa under Tony Xia.

A takeover is expected to be completed in the next two-to-three weeks providing the Football League approve.

Hollis will leave once the sale is wrapped up and is convinced the new owners will bring better times to Villa.

These are the key topics he spoke about today:

Why Tony Xia?

“The reason we went with him is because of his background. If you see what he has achieved in his business career, frankly it’s amazing.”

Does he have enough experience?

“It would be unfair of me to comment on Tony and his team and their ability. But we wouldn’t have sold the club to Tony and the Recon Group if we didn’t feel - particularly Randy, because this is a hugely emotional experience for him - that Tony was showing all the right signs of being the person who can polish this football club and take it back to where it should be.”

How much did Randy sell it for?

The Birmingham Mail understands it was between £75m and £100m depending on future success.

Hollis said: “I’m not going to say how it’s made up but the price is significantly more than the £60m that I’ve seen mentioned. It is a lot higher. We can’t disclose the price for various reasons.”

Was he the only option?

“No. As of two months ago we had half a dozen serious buyers. That came down to four and then two in the last couple of weeks. Of those two, Tony Xia was the preferred candidate.”

What role did Hollis play?

“I was given the job of the heavy lifting. The big job was to find a new owner. What you’ve seen is the culmination of my work.”

When is a new manager arriving?

“We’re going to have discussions next week. It’s no secret that Randy and I have our preferred choice. We’re in discussions. We will have discussions with Tony and his team next week. We’ve not had that discussion.”

Will there be a director of football?

“It’s down to Tony. If there are issues that align, we will get involved.”

Is a stadium move or development a thought?

Again, you need to ask him but he is responsible for the Bird’s Nest in Beijing and some of the other major iconic developments in China.

How was Randy’s mood like after?

“It’s a bit of a grieving process now for him also mixed in with happiness as he can see someone is taking the custodial role in this club.”

What should fans expect?

“Tony has some grand plans and you will soon see. Those plans are really, really exciting. For any supporter of this club to be a part of that journey that Tony is going to map out, it is going to be really great.”

Interesting stuff on Xia from Hollis. Especially about the Beijin National Stadium. Had no idea he had a hand in that incredible stadium!

I'm almost certain there will be substantial cash, probably more of a steady model, balances infrastructure, and player development, close to the Spurs/Arsenal model than City. That would not be the worst thing. further more, I actually think he is just trying to be modest. He is not exactly going to come out with the Glow sticks and party hat on his firsy day hey?

I don't think money will be an issue, it will be spent relative to the challenges in front of us. If DiMatteo, Pearson or whoever spend 30-40 million in pre season and can't have us competing for promotion then Tony xia won't the problem. It's good for villa being taken over at this stage by Chinese investors. They are clearly looking to promote and grow Chinese talent but that is years away yet. The only way you promote is by showing ramires, jackson martinez etc in the domestic league and hopefully promoting Aston villa.

I guess I speak for all of us when I say - 我们爱你贝!

Yeah other Chinese government backed teams are really showing that they can do whatever they like. Granted we have far stricter rules to go by in this country in our football leagues, but the owners of Guangzhou Evergrande spent £3 billion in 4 years on that club getting them from the second division to winning 5 domestic championships and 2 asian championships in 5 years. Shanghai SIPG who are owned by government run SIPG are buying players left and right, I can't remember who they just bought but he's on £350,000 a week so money again there is no issue. Xia has said he doesn't want to be a club like that, but the option is always there with backing from the government.

If Xia has the last word on manager do you think he would cross out Pearson as regards to what Pearson's son did in Thailand?I know we are talking about 2 different countries but maybe wouldnt go down well in Asian countries?

Who would buy them? I am sure a Chinese firm in December bought a 15% stake of the club for $400 million. No business man or men are going to spend the $1-2 billion that Man City are now likely worth, there is no resale value there and their Sheikh is likely figure that out when he struggles to sell it once bored.

Whether or not it sounds like Lerner's initial ambitions, I'm at least encouraged that if Big Tone were to get divorced, it wouldn't **** up the running of Aston Villa.

If we fit within a company tree, I'm happy for us to be run as a business, as the only way you seem to make money in football is if you become successful.

10 minutes of Hollis here, very interesting. Xia apparently has a "vision that goes beyond football."

I like how Hollis was asked if he would like to stay and he said hes grown to love the place. He thanked the fans for supporting the team that convinced Dr X to buy the club. Brought a tear to Hollis eye the way the fans were so positive that day. Its great to hear.

Man City are developing a Global footballing Empire, along with the Chinese. Talk of them getting "bored" any time soon is just wishful thinking. I actually watched an interview with the Sheikh discussing their ambitions. They all think China is the future.

I like this ALOT, have that feeling he will bring us back to the top.

A guy who is clearly a fan and knows his stuff and definitely highly intelligent. "Tony went to Harvard and MIT and was named as one of China's top 25 graduates in his national class of 1,000". Two of the worlds best universities, if not THE BEST alongside Stanford. He is extremely wealthy- "Xia is the Chairman of the Recon Group, a holding corporation that manages a portfolio of companies within China. A layman's description of the Recon Group would be that they are basically the company that owns the company that owns Walgreen/Boots (the Chinese equivalent of those pharmacies, though) as well as an absolute hatful of other brands across FIVE other sectors of business. Tony is a powerful man". Come on Tony, take us back to the glory days!

It is and we just got a firm foothold!
