No surprise as he's just sold the club to him.

If he wants us to be the biggest club in China,  then we need to be in the premier league.  I'd also imagine a far east tour which is highly lucrative

I've already heard him talk more in the last day than lerner in the last ten years

Interesting that Roberto WAS one of the choices,  emphasis on the WAS

When we're Premier League, I'd say regular trips to China are guaranteed.

I suspect our purchase is strongly linked to the Chinese President's pronouncements on improving China's participation in world football. Dr T wins Brownie points with the CCP.

It would be cool if, as we're the first club to be wholly-owned by someone Chinese, we were touted in China as as 'China's club' - China's representative in the biggest league in the world. Hopefully.

This all seems just so random. The poor guy, to me, looks like he's just had someone run over, steal his check book, tell him he now owns a football club and have ran off.

I shall sit back, relax and watch it all unfold anyhow :)

I am guessing the naysayers on here, who can't find the information thy want on the googles, are international consultants and business men. Surely Steve Hollis, Randy Lerner, the Brokers etc. facilitating the sale had no clue what they were doing, or who they were selling to. Documents were exchanged by Raven and confirmations by smoke signal.

£20 million, £30, £40 or £50 million.. They will decide the budget after speaking to the head coach and see what he wants. That is the general takeaway from the interview, but it is above.

He seems so nervous!

Think he was just a little bit nervous really.

I reckon was may be substituted for is due to the language barrier as much as anything else.

Tony Xia hopes revamp will turn Aston Villa into one of world’s top three clubs

New owner tells fans: ‘Forget the past ... we are going to enter into a new age’
Xia confirms discussions with Di Matteo and Pearson about manager’s job

The new owner of Aston Villa has vowed to transform the recently relegated clubinto one of the world’s top sides, pumping up to £50m into their coffers before next season and shunning talented but lazy players.

Xia Jiantong, a 39-year-old millionaire from east China who uses the English name Tony Xia, was unveiled as Villa’s new owner on Wednesday, one month after the club dropped into the Championship following one of the most disastrous seasons in their 142-year history.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon at his 19th-floor office in Beijing’s financial district, Xia said he was preparing to embark on an extensive revamp of the club in an effort to secure immediate promotion back to the Premier League. Once that was achieved he would fight to turn Aston Villa into a global footballing force.

“My ambition is to bring Villa to the top six in less than five years and I hope it can be [one of] the top three in the world – even the best well known in the world – in less than 10 years,” Xia told the Guardian in one of his first face-to-face interviews since the deal was announced...

Steve hollis is quoted in today's mail "the government will be involved in some way" and " it will be interesting to see if we get the president of China along". Also he has had the presidents cousin as a general krulak type figures in one of his companies. Can't see hollis lying.

It would take continuous success at a very high level for Aston Villa to even be thought of in the top 10, never mind within 10 years!

Over ambition.  But at least he wants to be successful (a lot like Lerner if you remember).

Oh well, let's just enjoy the ride while it lasts!

Hmmmm... Randy Mark II?? Proud History, Bright Future. I hope he's not all hot air.

Does anyone have any idea how much Big Tony is worth?

I know it's a bit irrelevant once you hit a certain level, buying football clubs is kind of a hyper elite plaything to some extent but are we looking at a lad with $200m and is stretched to the max or a smooth billionaire rolling into B6? A net worth of 6Bn would suit B)

Feel so much better after watching that.

He was clearly nervous, which is actually a good sign. He's a businessman but that doesn't mean he specialises in PR. What he did say though he said it without too much thought but without rushing and I got the impression he genuinely believes what he says. He's a self made man who backs himself, a lot to be admired there.

Yes, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. But without hope, what do we have? There is never going to be a better time than today to allow some of that into our hearts.
