England beat World Cup holders Japan back in 2011 and finished above them in their group, after Ellen White scored with a 'wonder' volley . I am not sure if England have ever beaten either USA or Germany, so meeting Japan gives them a tremendous psychological advantage. Japan play like Spain's men and will pass England to death but don't score many goals these days (nine one-nils in a row).
