I didn't know Russia owned that bit of land between Lithuania and Poland.

That's weird innit.

I thought this was a joke just because they're the same colour on the map.

Turns out I never knew that either

The bit with Kallingrad / Koningsberg in?

It used to be absolutely chock full of KGB Spooks before the wall came down.

At the USSR border (and at other times) we had our passports checked and everytime they looked at the Visas in the back they quickly gave us our passports back and moved along, dealt with us very quickly on seeing we were allowed to enter Kallingrad. We only found this out because our two mates from Gydnia (who were smuggling gold) told us. They wondered how we got the VIP treatment, then looked at our passports. They just said anyone that goes to Kallingrad is considered to be KGB, they weren't allowed there.

Neither were we, our gig there was cancelled but the visas were never amended.

Its just a bit of Germany that the Russians stole after WW2

It's important to Russia because its the only port of theirs on the Baltic that remains ice free all year round, so their Baltic Fleet is based there

I knew of it because this has been a very long time coming.

Kaliningrad wastewater treatment plant is very good news for the Baltic Sea, because until very recently, this city of almost half a million people was pouring 150,000 cubic meters of raw sewage into the sea every day. What has been in the making for more than forty years is now up and running.

I looked at it in 2008 as I was on a lads trip to the Baltics. We did Helsinki (boy can those Finns drink), Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius. We tried to extend it to either Kalinigrad or Minsk but no dice.

Another one of these....

Greenland is further North, South, East and West of Iceland

However, that doesn't mean you can get to Greenland from Iceland by travelling directly east or south.

Minsk is dead easy now , come a long way since 2008 !!  l went with my lad so can't vouch for the suitability of a lads weekend there though :)  ..

Poland mostly has Daleks in the south of the country, with the particularly bad, or bardzo daleks in the blue zone.

Avoid anywhere in the blue zone that has ramps.

That’s my take.
