To be fair he didnt play central midfielder a lot. He was a wide forward for Valencia and on loan to Elche. Sherwood has been playing him in midfield but he cant create anything that deep.. hes using him as a link up play which i think hes struggled with somewhat against Chelsea. He did link up well with Grealish a few times.. but what can we expect against Chelsea.. despite their recent form are still a top top side with great players.I hope he keeps the same attacking players for Swansea but i just get the feeling Gil will be dropped again. Of course, Gil provided a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel for Villa at Stamford Bridge, providing the most key passes of any visiting player (two), and making the second most passes at the second best rate of accuracy of all of his team-mates. Considering it was only Gil’s second start since February, the signs are positive. We’ve been here before, however. Gil’s only previous start this season came at Leicester, with his goal seemingly sending Villa on their way to a 2-0 victory before he was substituted on 66 minutes. By full-time and in Gil’s absence, Villa lost 3-2. But Gil’s first false start came after signing last January. If someone passes the ball 2 yards and someone else shoots miles over from 40 yards is that a key pass? It doesn't really matter about anything else - you set the team up to get the best out of Mr. Gil.Since when has he become our best player?Benteke aside, I'd say he became our best player the moment he signed. Popular Post a m ole Posted October 20, 2015 Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) not sure why this needs to be explained to adults but the importance of statistics is not the statistics themselves but how they're being interpreted to support an argument.Both of you, Antrim and DC have said it doesn't give a full picture, but literally no one who can see the usefulness of them has EVER suggested that only statistics are important. Of COURSE there are many variables that could skew statistics, but there are just as many variables that can skew the view of human interpretation. That's why you use both to come to a conclusion and don't ignore glaring evidence from either position, like, as you said, a key pass could have just been an aimless ball. But then on the other hand, if a player hits a few aimless balls that are reaching a forward and registering as a key pass, surely that is better than a player who is not getting anywhere near enough? Then it's about debating the margins of error within the statistics to decide if it's relevant. so yeah, statistics are very useful when used and interpreted by a reasoned mind.
