You're talking about a world totally outside my experience (I'm pleased to say).

Yea and me. Never done any drugs.. Never seen the need to risk my life on something, some stranger has cooked up which could contain anything.  I have a good enough time without it I suspect.

I wouldn't even know where to get drugs from.  Do you just approach a black guy in the corner of a club, like in the inbetweeners?

I went to Air in Digbeth years ago, the only time I ever went to a club like that, and was actually approached by a dealer while I was there. He was surprisingly nice and polite, when I declined anything he just said 'Ah, sorry. Well if you change your mind you know where I am'.

A few years later I was out in Subway City with a university mate who'd never been to Birmingham, he always just looked scruffy with long hair knackered jeans and crap trainers, hoody etc. He was outside having a fag and got approached by about 5 different people who were convinced he was a dealer. I think this was totally down to the fact he was wearing a hoody with a big front pocket that he had a habit of keeping his hands in, and smoked rollups.

I'm not that pure. I smoked plenty of hash back in my 20s, and I've done shrooms a couple of times. But frankly, I always found cannabis a rather boring drug. Too nuch sitting around soporifically listening to spacey music and not speaking. I much preferred some animated chat over a few pints down the pub. Had some for old times' sake in Amsterdam a couple of years ago, and a few tokes with an old mate a few weeks back, but again, meh.

Never bought anything directly from a dealer, it was always a mate who knew somebody who knew somebody.

Never done acid, speed, downers, coke or heroin, and never really knew anybody who did (a couple of occasional acid trippers being the rare exception).

I'm sticking with alcohol and coffee.

I probably know, and have associated with more people that do, or used to do drugs than I have with people who are non drug users. I don’t think me being a drug user has massively had that much to do with it being like that tbf though. During my darkest years that would have definitely been the case, but in terms of socialising before things got too heavy then I don’t think me being a user had much to do with it. There was always one or two in our group who wouldn’t be on drugs, and they didn’t seem to mind that most of the group were high on whatever. That was when we were younger though, and they probably would be more cautious being around drug users now they are older. There was also drug users I wouldn’t be around purely because we didn’t get on, or just didn’t knock about together. I loved a drink, but I never got people who were just happy doing that, and being content. I envy them these days, but years ago, I was like **** that. Was never one for pushing drugs on people though.

Go for a piss. And while you're in there say something like "Man, I really need a pick me up"

it's like saying Candyman 5 times into the mirror.

Funnily enough, in my naïvety I inadvertently summoned the candyman over Christmas.  I was at a party, it was still quite early in the evening (say 8pm) and everyone's behaviour just seemed a little off; a little too manic.  So I jokingly says "jesus, am I the only one here NOT on coke?".  About 3 different people at the party gave me a knowing wink which was both a 'yes you are' and a 'we can sort that for ya'

If you want to do some empirical research on what the effects of many people being on cocaine at the same time are, just fly to Liverpool and have a weekend on the town

I'm not even joking, it seems like half the population that go out at the weekend are snorting the night away. They'll then smoke over strength skunk all week

The smell of weed in my car is almost everpresent when I'm working and picking up youngsters and the amount of angsty people at the end of the night coming from the city centre is pretty much approaching 50%

I have to say it's very much a male thing, the women's drug of choice is make up

It's everywhere mate. Even in Melbourne where the quality is bad and the price higher than ones weekly rent.

I have a few friends who run or manage some of the bigger nightclubs and festivals in Melbourne and I've never been out on a night with them without  being offered some.

Nightclubs were only briefly my scene but even in that time I've noticed it being everywhere.

Even my basketball teams end of season celebration consisted of some lines in the bathroom. I don't know if any of them partook, but about a third of the team were also policemen.

I can imagine being a driver you would have a good, if not the best, seat in the house to get some insight into the habits of the city. Everybody's got to get home at some point.

I used to walk the streets of Melbourne CBD from 11pm to 5am on a weekend as part of the Salvation Army's 'Street Team', to assist the vulnerable and overly intoxicated and have to say those presenting as neurotic and drug affected were generally easier to deal with than those who have had too much to drink.

Being one of the bigger members of the team I was usually if not always tasked with dealing with the physical side of things. Which meant holding up men who couldn't put two footsteps together without falling and hitting their heads.

One time there was a fella who was bigger than me and as he sobered up, tried to strike me every minute or so, in the beginning it was hilarious because he was so drunk, his fist would literally turn to an open palm and caress my face on impact. As the minutes turned to hours he was much more difficult to deal with, fortunately the police came just as it became untenable.

I've had to carry grown men who have pissed their pants and vomited on themselves for 50 meters because they were unconscious (police should never have tasked us with an unresponsive/unconscious person in the first place). It's bad enough trying to lift dead weight without the combination of piss and vomit involved.

Oddly enough I've been told all sorts of curse words and where to go by drunks but whilst working with Street Teams never had this experience with those who are neurotic and/or dealing with a potential overdose from drugs. If anything the ones close to overdose knew they were in a bad way and wanted the assistance. I've probably been lucky in that regard, but this has been my experience.

On the other hand, working at the homeless shelter, we have a nightmare of a time dealing with those who are a combination of drug affected and presenting with mental health issues.

The place (the shelter) is ideally meant for those who need it to come in and have a place for respite. Food's readily served, blankets and pillows upon request, hot and cold drinks free of charge. As I said a place of respite, it has it's moments when it's quite homely. All it takes is one person suffering from you name it to start talking too loudly and incessantly or worse start jumping on tables running all about the place raving about their delusions or hallucinations and we've got hundreds of disgruntled community members to try and make peace with.

It really isn't, loads of women do it.

Don't know if this is relevant in this thread but ….. it seems to be mainly about 'recreational drugs'; has anyone ever tried PED's and how did it affect you if you have.

Not personally, but a mate of mine was taking Clenbuterol tablets whilst training/dieting and the effects were pretty amazing TBF.

I was tempted at the time, but don't like stuff that has the potential to make you 'jittery'.
