Nuclear War (next week?)

What I find confusing is 2 things

firstly, if you're N Korea and you have a bit of a wendy on with that America, and so you've decided you're going to like "get them" then surely you'd just do it - you wouldn't act like a drunk outside a pub, yelling and windmilling punches at fresh air and shouting the odds to everyone?

And secondly, Cameron said " This shows why we need nukes, because of North korea" - er, no, mate, it doesn't. Because, well, the thing is if having nukes was a deterrent, then N. Korea wouldn't be picking on the Country with more nukes than anyone else, would they? - they'd be having a dig at Switzerland, or Albania. Unless, of course Cameron wants the drunk outside the pub to have a go at him, so he can show how hard and tooled up he is, just like his mate America.

The whole thing is comedy gold.

Ive liked but this deserves more.

Superb analysis Blandy.

yes but No  ... if it were say Algeria then Blandy's assessment would be true , but in the case of NK  ... they want to remind the world especially Washington , about the threat they constitute. They hope that in so doing, they will strengthen the position of those who want to engage with them. They hope ultimately to get aid for what they are doing now. In the past, such a policy worked very well.

Also , nothing helps to ensure popularity ( and obedience  )at home as much as talk about a foreign threat. Eventually, when the threatened American invasion yet again fails to materialize, it will be presented as another victory for the young Kim

 ^^ That too.

Once Foal Eagle has finished no doubt the NK state media will be giving it the "US buckled before the mighty power of our mighty forces" bullshit.

Foal Eagle has already been dramatically reduced from it's initial plan so don't kid yourself that the Americans are riding roughshod here

Of course yes but NK traditionally get twitchy about military "manoevers" since its been used as a way to launch sneak attacks before.

Nevermind who made the first move, of course.

Meanwhile in Europe ...

Someone has also made the interesting observation that knowingly-false intelligence was enough to go to war in Iraq yet confirmed nuclear weapons* have not resulted in a similar invasion of North Korea.

Of course we know the real answer. It's just important to point out the hypocricy.

* not to mention worse human rights violations

I'd argue butchering the Kurds was on a parr with any human right violations in NK

OT but removing Saddam for gassing people should have been all the justification needed , that the UK govt lied to it's people, and Blair still continues to do so  is completely baffling

what has NK got to do with Blair?

I see from that graphic that Cameron's claims yesterday were nothing more than BS and he should be brought to task about especially as many world leaders have warned about how easily things could escalate.

As for NK when their biggest ally China warns them you have to wonder what is happening. The Chinese could be beneficiaries if there was a problem and they could fill voids in terms of economics etc for parts of the region

Great, now we're back to Tony Blair. Anyone still got that terrorist threat leaflet they sent to us all?

It would make great TV if the US either just bomb the **** or go in on a ground offensive. I would like to see this happen.

not sure how anyone could say they would like to see a war where lives will be lost.

Personally I'd rather not see it happen
