Pundits when Leeds go down: “is now the time to award a trophy for going down? Leeds certainly deserve one for their incredible performances”

One of the greatest relegations in football history

The best thing about this implosion is that the media and more importantly the Leeds fans still love him, so he isn’t going to get sacked.

4 pages in 3 hours on Leeds forum "Is it time?" Most blaming recruitment guy but lot complaining about murderball and man marking and easy to play against.

tbf its not just Phillips is it?, arent they missing something like 7 players?

Yeah but the stat that they have an average of 1.6 points per game with him vs 0.5 without is pretty indicative of how important he is.  Most teams can sustain a few injuries and not be absolute dog shit, but Leeds look lost.

Leeds fan arrested in connection to alleged racist abuse of Arsenal players

Police have arrested a Leeds supporter in connection to alleged racist abuse of Arsenal players during this evening's match at Elland Road.

The Athletic understands that the players targeted by the alleged racist abuse were the substitutes Nicolas Pepe and Nuno Tavares and that it happened while they were warming up in the corner to the left of the dugouts in the first half.

The Arsenal substitute Rob Holding was pictured talking to the fourth official before a member of Leeds staff was notified.

Leeds have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that one arrest has been made in connection to the allegation.

A Leeds statement said: “Racism will not be tolerated at Leeds United and any supporter found to be using racist language will be subject to a life time ban for all Leeds United games.”

This might be the least experienced bench ever in PL history?

Got a decision to make here; either St Marcelo gets over the 'prefers to work with a smaller squad' thing, or they run the real risk of relegation. This bench ain't it lads.

They’re very unlucky with injuries (or maybe over-trained? No idea) - I think they’ve got 12 squad players out which is pretty ridiculous and just gets heightened when the squad isn’t that big in the first place…

…but that bench absolutely IS it. Personally, think they should play them until the end of the season to blood them into PL football properly 👀

Yeah their injury list is absolutely ridiculous, no mid table team have a squad big enough to cope with that level of missing players. A Covid pause to the season would be very welcomed for them.

Feels like a big risk/chance that Bielsa will be gone in the summer or before that and that the likes of Phillips and Raphinha will follow him out the door. Not sure how they would cope with that even if those 2 will bring in a lot of dosh. Rodrigo is 31 in a couple moths, Cooper and Ayling too.

It's not a total disaster as the squad is still OK-ish with some OK-ish younger players but they probably need to strike gold with the next manager appointment too or they will be in (even more) trouble.

My message to cheer up and give Leeds' fans hope:

You've lost just four of the last ten, but those defeats were to Spurs, Chelsea, Man City and on form Arsenal, Chelsea games was a valiant effort, and Arsenal and Man City will beat other teams by similar scorelines never mind teams missing many of their key players.

You're still five points clear of the botttom three, yes Watford and Burnley have games in hand, but Watford have lost seven of the last nine, and I don't think games being called off will help their situation, both had a favorable run of fixtures coming up which could well have presented them with a good chance of going on a run, if those games are now to be called off and rearranged at random dates spread across the season rather than one after the other then that takes away the chance they might have had to build some momentum from those games.

Some important players to return from injury, the small squad is always going to be a problem, but should have enough to at least finish above three teams in the league this season, in fact a lower to midtable finish is still what I'd expect.

But my warning would be that need to strengthen in January and try and spend more wisely.
