Yes its a great story though isn't ? - Not liked because he was signed by Mccleish and had a poor start to villa career, the completley frozen out because he earnt to much - Finally get his chance and goes on to become a cult hero

Alan Hutton............The Movie

It was a time for Heroes, he was the outcast, unwanted.  He rose above it and became the legend they called........

The Scottish Cafu

Needs to be read in an deep gravelly American accent

How bloody depressing. Nothing changes, more of the same... miserable.

What would you rather happen? We lose a versatile, experienced and totally one hundred percent committed professional who always give his all and is even willing to take a pay cut to stay here and fight for the cause? And are left with a team of scumbags like Richards and McCormack who are happy to sit on their backsides earning a fortune every week. Now that would be depressing!

We need players with his attitude and commitment now more than ever.

The third time we have given Alan Hutton a contract and people wonder why we are shit.

Indeed, because one of our most hardworking, loyal and morale boosting utility players signing a new contract on vastly reduced wages in an alleged financial crisis is a sign of continued and impending doom.

I could think of about 190 other reasons why we have been "shit".

The only negative I can personally pull from this is that it indicates Bruce is staying.

No we need players that are good at football. Alan Hutton isn't and never has been. One of the main reasons we have been in a steady decline over last few years is that we have been playing/signing players who simply aren't good enough. Now we have given a new contract to a player we already know is not good enough. He is, at his best, a mid table championship player and he's now 34. The signal this signing sends out is that we are happy to have players of that standard at the club, rather than letting them go and signing better/younger/more expensive players and looking to improve/get promoted/get better.

And before anyone points it out, I know that you need a squad and players who might be happy to play a supporting role during the season. The problem is Hutton will probably end up playing 30+ games for us next season. It's necessarily a dig at him specifically, but more a realisation of the situation the club is in and the steady decline. We are keeping him because he's cheap, not because we are trying to get better. Any ambition seems to be dead in the water.

The drudgery of news we have had over the last 2 weeks, yet this is the thing that makes you miserable?

This is good news, no matter your personal feelings towards him.

Must admit, the views from our colonial friends in the US always amuse me

offensive xenophobia.

Being a "colonial" i thought USA_Villa was dead wrong about Hutton, but that's beside the point.  Xenophobia is naive, stupid, and foolish.... in addition to being offensive.

Maybe if you had have been there, sir. Maybe if you had heard the joyous cries when Alan picked up the ball and skipped in field. Maybe if you had heard just one of the many "Go on Alan!!" as he went on a lung busting run that would unite the crowd and dull the moans.  He has an unidentifiable gift of getting the crowd behind the team and the booboys onside. We don't know why. We don't know how, but God dammit he just does. That has got to be worth a hill of beans in his topsy turvy world.

Id agree here.  Im nowhere near a fan boy of his but you cant take away his ability to get the crowd going on those depressing flat crowd games.

That is quite a statement.

We finished 4th last season and just missed out on Promotion.....We have lost some influential players, but the upside is ,we could inject more pace and exuberance in to the team, from the Youth.

The Finances could be described as shite to be fair to you.....but the challenge is, is to sort them out.

Alan Hutton played some fine games last season and in many was man of the match.....He was instrumental in the error at Wembley, but other established players have made some Howlers too.....John Terry & Jedi

I prefer to judge him overall and not on the odd game.

We've got to keep some of the squad together. We can't just ship everyone out and replace them with younger players. Hutton is a good squad player to have and will probably be our LB next season, and great value for the experience we get with it.

We are keeping him, because over many games last season he was one of our better players.

that to me makes sense.

He has proved a great character to have around the place and his fitness is amazing.....his runs are dangerous and penetrative to the opposition....He has presence and is robust in close contact.

He has his faults, otherwise he would be in the Prem.....He can lack concentration at times, as was proved in the final.

Overall good signing.....and good message.

I'm not a fan but he did Ok last season when called upon

that we aren't signing better is probably telling of our financial situation , but if it means we save a few million to put towards replacing Hourihane in CM then its a very good (re)signing for the club
