Jay.P.A
He's a star in the making. Big season for him this season. I think he said this was his first 'proper' preseason without any injuries as well.

Stevo985 Posted August 1, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) On Delph "taking his time" I'll say it again, he is really quite inexperienced, despite the fact he's been with us for what seems like ages. Injuries have meant that if you look purely at appearances, he's basically only had one full season's worth. And those have been relatively sporadic. If he has a good solid run of fitness then I expect him to come on leaps and bounds. Edited August 1, 2013 by Stevo985
Popular Post theunderstudy
Sylla (22) - Midfield presence, big blocky midfielder, dribbles well, passes okay, makes good tackles and generally gets around in midfield. The "Spoiler" midfielder. He's best in a defensive role although handy when attacking. Delph (23) - Midfield energy, zips around like no-ones business, makes tackles belying of his slight frame and deceptively agile and quick. Also gets forward rapidly. Dribbling often, and can lose the ball although will endeavour to get it back. The "Terrier" midfielder. Westwood (23) - Midfield pulse, passes, passes, passes again. Occasionally doesn't take notice of his surroundings but mostly can be relied on to take the ball, see the pass, pass the ball. Slowly taking more shots. The "Metronome" midfielder. That midfield has an average age of just south of 23, these are still young players. We'll get mistakes. Plenty. But they're learning and they'll get better. They're a match for anyone in enthusiasm and energy, just need to keep building from their performances. Delph is a big part of our near future. He's a very talented midfielder and players not dissimilarly to Ramires but obviously not as good. He's nobody's fool either, and will tackle anyone (notably when he enthusiastically crunched Yaya Toure) However he is susceptible to injury. Same as Gardner, if he stays injury free, and keeps achieving, and keeps growing as a player, we'll have one heck of a gifted midfield in a few years. Just need a talented young AM in front of that as an option... maybe Grealish in a few years but we need someon around 21-ish there now who can f--- s--- up up front with the front three being used to good effect. Add to this KEA hasn't looked bad and hopefully he'll settle properly this year, and Gardner/Bacuna in too. And Carruthers to a lesser extent. Other options in a bad crisis Clark or Herd who are capable there.
mikeyp102
do we need to play with 2 box to box CMs in delph and westwood and 1 DM in sylla? Whenever Sylla played last season he was far more advanced than Westwood, he was playing the defensive position far more advanced, pressing the ball high up the pitch. I wouldn't say he is the stereotypical dm

His tendency to get injured is a worry but, if he can shake that off, this lad has real talent of a premier league quality. It's a big "if" about the injuries, though. villa-revolution
Delph's tendency to get booked is probably more alarming. Let's hope we don't get our usual proportion of shit refs again this season.
Con
Don't want to be too critical of a technically excellent goal from range, but the Walsall defenders were backing away like he had the lurgy, gave him enough room to build a detached six-bedroom family home. it was a goal from his Leeds Utd days in League One. however, Delph will be playing in the Premier League this year not League One so enjoy the goal, I predict there won't be more than one this year. I couldn't care less if he scores no goals in his whole career. He isn't about goals. They're just a bonus. Absolutely, especially as one of those injuries was an ACL (iirc). Fingers crossed though
Rob182
When Bacuna picked up a slight knock in the game against Walsall, I thought it was Delph and I immediately thought "No, no, please, not again".. I really hope Delph can have an injury free season this year. I've rooted for him from day 1 !

Rob182
If Bannan had scored it, it would have been Bannan's vision that found a gap in the defenders that no other Villa player spotted.

KjParton
If Bannan had scored it, he'd have been predicting 15 goals and 10 assists this season for Bannan, who would be awaiting the impending transfer to Barcelona! But if Delph can remain injury free, he can definitely have a good season. Edited August 2, 2013 by KjParton
