Id play them in attack if it kept them away from our area

For one thing, Ciaran Clark was a holding/defensive midfielder, that is until O'Neil played him as cover at centre-back.

That is why he hasn't got the basics of being a central defender in his armoury, although with decent specialist coaching he could make the transition, if he really wanted to.

He has always been a centre back throughout his time here in the youth team and first team. He got played at DM as we had no one else at the time to play there.

it fascinates me how most pundits came out and defended him for his own goal.....yet MON dropped him.

There is clearly a difference of opinion.

MON dropped him after failing to put Hazard "into the fence" the following game, not directly after the own goal but I agree that he is too mistake prone.

In other good news he's contracted to us for another 4 more years...

He has played about 10 games in his career in defensive midfield and that was under Houllier. He was Under 16 England captain from centre back and has played that position 95% of his career

Then why doesn't he have the basics of being able to pass to a VIlla shirt, and not being the owner of a left AND a right foot?

Abysmal footballer in every sense. I characterise him as a loser. He could be playing at power league and he would still lose his head. Out of his depth. Always will be.

Been a fan of Clark and thought he'd come good eventually and iron out the deficiencies in his game, not looking likely at this stage. Hasn't actually played a lot of football given his age either going by his wiki stats.

About where i am. There are a few things to like about his game, and when he first broke into the team i think his moments of madness were simply put down to inexperience. But he is 28 now, he has plenty of game time under his belt and those deficiencies not only remaim, but seem to be a more regular occurrence.

It feels like every game there is a negative talking point. A rash challenge, poor positioning, a stupid free-kick/penalty. He simply isn't good enough, and having shown no improvement in these areas over the last 3/4yrs, i have no confidence whats so ever that they will be addressed in the next season or 2.

He has been involved in 134 premiership games since the start of the 09/10 season.

That works out at just about a gnats testicle more than 19 games a season.

So that's about 50% of games in the most extended run of worst results the club have ever endured.

Tony Pullis wants WBA to give us £5million for him, why are we waiting.

Clark made his 1st team debut alongside Cuellar in the 2-0 win over Fulham. I remember, I was there. He only played in midfield a while later. Scored two goals against Arsenal, if my memory serves me. He is a CB, that's where he's best. Unfortunately, he hasn't improved like we hoped he would. He's not a leader, he is always good for a mistake and he only produces a solid performance alongside another accomplished defender. At 28 he should be the accomplished defender that we can pair with a younger CB. He should be able to lead and direct play with confidence. But he can't. I like him as a character and wouldn't be against him staying as part of a squad. But to keep him as first choice next season would be a mistake that we would live to regret.

Pulis has already got 3 CB's playing yesterday for NI and Wales who are better than Clark

3 CB's is threadbare for a guy who's prefered formation is 8-1-1

I would bite your hand off for £5million..... take £3million and give it to Blackburn for Clark international teammate Duffy

Elphick + Duffy would be a formidable partnership

You obviously didn't see Irelands game today so. Duffy was awful.
