I think we've given up on Mad Men. I admire it and it's well acted and the aesthetic does draw you in. But I never at the end of the day ever really want to watch it. There's always something else which would be just as fun without the effort.  The Leftovers was similar. I watched 4 episodes and thought this is interesting, but just had no momentum with watching it. First episode of The Man In the High Castle, didn't stick with me either.

Very much searching for a decent 45 minute episode drama that pulls you in quickly. There's absolutely loads out there, but it's just easier to re-watch The West Wing or Gilmore Girls at the moment.

Currently re-watching Community again. Forgot how wonderfully silly that show could be.

The Good Place had a really touching finale, very well done.

I thought Mad Men was superb.

Anyhoo, "New Amsterdam" - great if you like hospital dramas with lots of teary-eyed stories. A bit soppy for my liking but it'll do til some of my other stuff is ready to view.

I went to the James Bond one and was thoroughly unimpressed. It was cool and all, but it was built up has having all sorts of things to do but the sheer amount of people there meant it was kind of impossible to do anything (cracking codes and chasing bad guys and all that stuff)

I've heard the other ones have been far better though so I'd be keen to do another one.

It’s the first one I’ve done, so I can’t compare.

I did read spoiler free review from a journalist before I went that had been to all of them, and they said it had got better and better each time with Stranger Things being the best one yet. Part of that was they felt they had got the right balance on number of people Vs activity/space etc.

It was busy and there were a couple of areas that got quite packed at one point or another, but there was loads going on, so I never felt like you couldn’t fully take part.

There were quite a few food/drink stalls too, plus a version of the Hideaway pub - so people were quite spread out throughout the evening

The finale was in one room with everybody and there was still plenty of space around you.

It was exceptionally well put together.

The Bond one there were loads of rooms with stuff going on, but all of them you were just standing around. The odd thing would happen (a gun fight happened in the room I was in for a second and it was genuinely quite scary!)

There were like missions and stuff you were given, but I couldn't figure out what to do for mine apart from go to a particular location. Then I was stuck so we just wandered around a bit.

I went to the back to the future one and the star wars one.

Both incredible experiences. The back to the future one especially. Don't know how they could top it.

Ruptured my achilles a few weeks back so have had plenty of TV time. Decided to do Mad Men again.

I think it's an amazing show and I'm enjoying it even more the 2nd time. Helps that I've forgot a few things.

The characters are great, the acting is great and the style of the show is great. Fully invested in everything about it even second time round.

Once again find myself searching for sunglasses and watches worn by Don Draper and then realise I can't afford any of it.

I think I would have to have no other options going on to help me get through the first season. Once I'm a season in to most shows I'm invested, but after 5 or 6, episodes as I say I can appreciate it is a good show. But it just never screams, "watch me now" particularly at the end of a work day. Feels like too much hard work, there's not enough levity in it.

Mad Men is fantastic but it's definitely a very slow burner. Probably isn't for everyone.

I know one of my best mates, with whom I share taste in films tv shows books etc, absolutely hates it and can't understand why anyone likes it.

It's one of those where you can watch an episode and feel like nothing has happened, but it all falls into place eventually.

I’m with you on Mad Men. I could see why people loved it, but for me it just felt like I was watching the same episode over and over again.

On The Leftovers, I’d recommend going back to that one day. The first series is weird and slow. I nearly gave up on it, but S2 & 3 are right up there with the very best and it’s absolutely brilliant.

Umbrella Academy, The Boys, Warrior and Watchmen - all of them were ace and pretty ‘instant’ in terms of grabbing interest.

Watching the new Armando Iannucci effort - ‘Avenue 5’ on Sky

Decent start. As with most comedies they can take a bit of time to bed in, but it’s promising so far. If it gets anywhere near Veep it’ll be worth watching.

Miracle Workers with Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi is half decent too.

Have to say, I thought it was painful viewing and it didn’t elicit a single laugh. :(

Totally agree with you on Mad Men, I just got to the point where it seemed that nothing was happening and I didn't care enough to continue.  Love The West Wing too, possibly my favourite ever but Gilmore Girls is a bit of a weird one innit?  I did have a thing for Alexis Bledel for a while mind you.

I thought the first episode was a bit forced, but I thought it picked up quite a bit in the second.

Iannucci has a pretty decent track record, so maybe stick with it for another few and see if it improves?

I remember watching Veep for the first time and wasn’t sure, but that turned out to be brilliant.

Just started watching Veep after enjoying the first few episodes of Avenue 5. Veep is definitely funnier than Avenue 5 but it’s still not as good as the thick of it imo

@DCJonah @Stevo985 @wazzap24 never heard of secret cinema before, without ruining it could you briefly explain the concept? Do you still watch the film or just “act” parts of it out?

You watch the film in an environment where they try to bring the film to life. A bit like watching the movie in the movie. Or a mix of film and interactive theatre. And they make an evening of it with activities and things going on around you, like you're part of a play going on around the movie.

When they did Empire Strikes Back the conceit was you were in a rebel base that eat coming under attack while the events of the from play out, and at points you'd be watching the film while they added a live action element to it.

From what I understand at it's best it's incredible, but some things lend themselves to the concept more than others - I imagine the Blade Runner one was incredible, but the Romeo+Juliet one I can only imagine was shite.

I'm not a star trek fan but Picard was good, overall quality of it (ropey looking stunt double aside for the running scene) is as good as anything I can think of seeing before, the girl is cool, a fair bit goes over my head but it's not been a problem yet

When I did the Bond one it was in a big warehouse. It was divided into lots of different areas from Casino Royale. So there was a bit in Africa from the bit at the start where they free run on the crane and stuff, there was an airport part, there was a bit in Italy, there was a tropical beach bit etc.

Everyone was given an alias before hand and clues and I think the idea was you had to find someone of a particular name and they'd give you things to do. it sounded awesome. I was told my contact was last seen in Venice, so I went to the airport part, looked at the departures board and found a flight going to venice and its gate number, and followed signs to that gate, which then brought me out in "Venice". So that was cool. But once I got there I didn't know what to do. There were hundreds of people there, so I was basically stuck and then just wandered round the whole place.

It was really cool, but there just wasn't much to do, if that makes sense.

Then at one point everyone was ushered into the centre into this massive area set out like a casino. Hung out there for a bit and then there was a massive fight where Bond turned up and was helicoptered out of the place, then a massive screen came down and a wall moved back and there were hundreds of seats and everyone sat down to watch the movie. During the movie there were actors who acted out parts of the movie in front of the screen.

So it sounds pretty cool. But when I was there it was just a bit, I dunno. Boring :D
