Small Heath came for a draw. Their formation, team selection and attitude showed this. Bascially, a 'WE MUST NOT LOSE' attitude forgetting the purpose is to win the game.

Yesterday MON did an interview where he talked of the importance of keeping your discipline in games such as these. He was spot on, it was where we won the game today. Because while their players were aiming kicks at Milner, grabby Gabby's shirt (one particular obvious time was in the penalty area, too), flicking V's at Villa fans (Carr), swearing at Villa fans (Johnson) and putting in challenges heavy when not needed, Villa kept their head.

We struggled to create, but we always do when the opposition puts five in midfield and has little intention of attacking.

So fair play and well done to the players and manager for the correct attitude throughout the game. Friedel was my MOTM, made a couple of really decent saves. Including the one from the weekly Dunne cock up.

Dunno if it was a penalty or not. But just as we had to take the Vidic decision, the Semi final decision, the countless penalties at Portsmouth turned down, they'll have to put up with it.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. It just shows how lacking in class Birmingham City really are. Embarrassing players and fans who both lack any sort of class.

If any small heath knuckledraggers want to talk about laws of the game then ask them why exactly the throw in goal a few years ago should have counted considering nobody touched it. rocket polishers.

The trouble is we have spoilt their cup final, again. Six points of the "Veeeeela" and relegation - successful season. No points off Villa and a top ten finish - abject failure. Sack the manager.

Or the fact Vassell was onside in the very same game to make it 1-1 when we were battering them.

Anyway, scoreline says 1-0.

Just watching MotD 2 and they have just described Craig Gardner as life long Blues fan. Just goes to show if you say it enough everyone will believe it.

The Times reckon that nice Mr Carr might be in a wee spot of bother.

Stephen Carr faces a possible FA charge after Aston Villa fans reacted angrily to his offensive gestures in the wake of Birmingham City’s derby defeat.

Birmingham lost to a disputed penalty by James Milner, converted seven minutes from time, after Roger Johnson was adjudged to have brought down Gabriel Agbonlahor. Johnson could also be in trouble with the domestic game’s governing body after he called Martin Atkinson, the referee, “a disgrace” for his performance.

Carr ran off the pitch making provocative hand gestures to Villa fans. The FA confirmed it will review any video or pictorial evidence. Afterwards, Alex McLeish, the Birmingham manager, suggested that “big clubs get the big decisions” as Martin O’Neill’s team moved level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, having played one more game.

Villa confirmed their place in Europe for the third successive season, after a sixth consecutive victory over their main rivals. O’Neill praised his players’ continued “resilience” after a third win in eight days. “It’s been a great week,” the Villa manager said. “We’re still in it [the battle for fourth place] going to Manchester City [on Saturday]. Now we can go into the last couple of games giving it absolutely everything.”

Shame.

This is from the FIFA rulebook. Relevant points in capitals:

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any

of the following seven offences IN A MANNER CONSIDERED BY THE REFEREE TO BE

CARELESS, reckless or using excessive force:

• kicks or attempts to kick an opponent

• TRIPS or attempts to trip AN OPPONENT

• jumps at an opponent

• charges an opponent

• strikes or attempts to strike an opponent

• pushes an opponent

• tackles an opponent

A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any

of the following three offences:

• holds an opponent

• spits at an opponent

• handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own

penalty area)

A penalty kick is awarded if any of the above ten offences is committed by

a player inside his own penalty area, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE POSITION OF THE BALL,

PROVIDED IT IS IN PLAY.

I think the first line, pretty well describes the penalty.

The way I seen it was that yes Johnson did touch the ball first, but the touch was so slight, it would have played Gabby in had he not took the player out....Pen for me.

also c 6mins in to the game Gabby was being held off by a blues defenders hand....that was a pen too , but we didn't get it.

you get some , and some you don't.

It's obvious the guys like Larson who have been there for a while have really started to get jack of losing to the Villa. He was absolutely vile and nasty the whole match and even after the match even though he had been subbed off. What a nasty little piece of work.

Probably cops shit from Mellberg at Sweden training too :)

The great thing about Blose avoiding relegation this season too is that wins 7 and 8 are only a season away!
