Europa Conference League Group Stage Draw

It exists as a concept, but what it is depends on the viewpoint of who you're asking. There's not an absolute, unquestionable, 100% definite definition of what Europe is. You can't point at Europe and say 'that, unquestionably, to everyone in perpetuity, is Europe, and everything that falls outside of this definition is not Europe'. It's not like trying to define what a pen is. Geographically it has multiple definitions, politically it exists in various extents and forms, in sports its various things depending on the context and the organisations involved, in TV production and organisations it's something else, etc etc. It only exists objectively as a concept. Thus you can have situations like this where clubs that nobody really thinks are European are actually considered European.

This is probably for another thread, but you are so wrong it's actually annoying :)

EVERYTHING is based on our assumptions regarding scale and definitions. Europe exists - some say it ends in the Urals, some say Istanbul is the border. Some idiots think Australia is in Europe because it takes part in the European song contest. Just because you have different definitions of something, it doesn't take away that Europe exists - you might argue about it's nature, but it exists.

If you want to be a smart ass about it, let's take your pen example. You might get a scientist who will say it's actually not a pen, it's a cylindrical composite of artificial chemicals. You might get someone from the amazon jungle who never saw one and uses it as decoration. You might get a theoretical physicist who says it's mostly empty space between atoms that we are looking at here.

Everything is up for discussion - but if you are happy to agree 'a pen is a pen' (with certain caveats) then I am happy to say Europe is roughly between Portugal from the West to Turkey to the East (with certain caveats).

I'm so glad we agree :)

You can also  get cheap day excursions to Gaza - heard its pretty lively there.

Is that in Europe too ? 😉

On a serious note I read that Isreal play in European competitions as Arab nations refuse to compete with them.

Anyway back on topic. The group stages should be pretty easy to get through.

Still a slim chance we end up in Pot 1 (if we qualify ourselves!)

Need 4 of these 8 (plus a few other very unlikely excluded possibilities) results to come in:

Team 1    Agg.    Team 2    1st leg    2nd leg

Levski Sofia Bulgaria Match 1 Germany Eintracht Frankfurt 1–1 31 Aug

Sofia win away from a level tie

Gent Belgium Match 2[A] Cyprus APOEL 2–0 31 Aug

APOEL win at home overturning a 2 goal deficit

Osasuna Spain Match 16 Belgium Club Brugge 1–2 31 Aug

Osasuna win away overturning a 1 goal deficit

AZ Netherlands Match 12 Norway Brann 1–1 31 Aug

Brann win at home from a level tie

Lille France Match 8 Croatia Rijeka 2–1 31 Aug

Rijeka win at home overturning a 1 goal deficit

Midtjylland Denmark Match 7 Poland Legia Warsaw 3–3 31 Aug

Legia win at home from a level tie

Heart of Midlothian Scotland Match 14 Greece PAOK 1–2 31 Aug

Hearts win away overturning a 1 goal deficit

Tobol Kazakhstan Match 5 Czech Republic Viktoria Plzeň 1–2 31 Aug

Tobol win away overturning a 1 goal deficit

Straight through Belarus currently harbouring Russian troops, what could possibly go wrong!

Well, Russia also harbours Russian troops. That could be an issue.

On this journey through Russia.

Would probably only go to Lille, Frankfurt or Brugge in a group stage match. Can’t see myself wanting to go to Ukraine or Belarus right now…

Would love Brugge. Easy to get to, a lovely place and good beer. I think we’d take 10,000 if we are allowed.

I’m guessing tickets for away games  will be impossible if you aren’t a season ticket holder ?

Away ticketing is practically a closed shop and has been for a while.

Jesus Christ that's complicated. Whatever happened to baffled looking celebrities and retired footballers in ill fitting suits pulling balls out a bag?
