Marka Ragnos Posted July 2 VT Supporter Share Posted July 2 (edited) Who are some former Villa players or managers who, in "20/20 hindsight," seem to have been treated a bit badly by supporters or the media or VT in the past but now don't seem so unlikable or poor? Player or managers who are perhaps due a reputational rehabilitation? Edited July 2 by Marka Ragnos

What a dramatic and interesting season 2005-06 seems to have been. Our main rivals relegated, and Villa precariously close. Wow. It seems as if O'Leary at least staved off disaster then got the sack, and Lerner and MON come to town. That's a mental trajectory. Quote The season saw Chelsea retain their title after defeating Manchester United 3–0 at Stamford Bridge towards the end of April. On the same day, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City were relegated, joining Sunderland in the Championship for the following season. Chelsea drew the record they set the previous season, with 29 wins in home and away campaigns.[2][3] Edited July 3 by Marka Ragnos
villan95
Does Ashley Young count? It felt like the hate towards Gareth Barry for leaving dissipated after a while. Seeing what direction the club went in I don't think people begrudged him leaving in the end.
Popular Post ozvillafan Posted July 3 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted July 3 Gerard Houlier. Pilloried on here during his only season in charge before bad health saw him step down. Took us from a counter-attacking team to one that wanted to boss possession, made the players train and eat properly (which really made Dunne and Collins mad), dared to mention the fond memories he had of Liverpool when we played them and despite spending large periods in the bottom of the table, ended up 9th - which posters here wanted to attribute to MacAllister!! We then replaced him with McLeish. About as far away ideologically as you can get.

Destroyed any fight or comeback spirit the club had. Broke our transfer record, was more interested in enjoying his day out at anfield and our best two performances came when he was nowhere near the training ground or pitch. 9th place is the most false league position in our prem history IMO. It was a woeful season.
Popular Post UpTheVilla26
I'd say Gareth Barry. To me, he's a Villa legend. I remember watching his debut sub appearance v Sheffield Weds. He came on and just looked so comfortable with the ball. He gave us amazing service. Even the season when he'd made it clear he wanted to leave, he got on with it and was superb. Yet I still see people slag him off or have bitterness that he left.

It was a woeful season. That season I saw a Villa team full of youth players play a very strong Man U team off the park. Yes the game finished 2-2 but that was what Houllier was building but it was going to take time, backing and patience.
Popular Post ender4
Remi Garde. He didn’t stand a chance with the team, players and club we had at that point. Who knows if he could have been a decent manager in the right set-up.
Jareth
Tony Moon "Luna was referenced in the 19th Jack Reacher novel Personal by Lee Child, an Aston Villa fan.[31] There, character Casey Nice described him as a friend of hers, adding "I call him Tony Moon".[32] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Luna_(footballer) Edited July 3 by Jareth 1
Popular Post Dante_Lockhart
Jordan Veretout. Maintain we totally ruined him from an intergration stand point. He never settled (from reports he was pretty much ignored) but he's proven he's a solid player after the stint with us.
