People seem to think physical traits are the number one priority?

I think it’s more that we don’t have enough in our team so when acquiring players it would be good that in there we add some physical element as an option.  Physical traits don’t trump ability obviously, it just seems we are a bit light in that area so something we need to beef up (pardon the puns).

I wonder if it might be a loan because can’t see City taking the haircut required on fee for Phillips and can’t see anyone willing to pay a decent fee when he hasn’t been fit for so long except maybe West Ham if they sell Rice.

Walker - prize 🔔 but probably the perfect player for what we need in that position. Pace, played most of his career against top class opposition and generally always performed well, used to playing in possession based team. The wages, personality and age would be painful but if it gets us into Europe so be it.

I think that Citeh will take a slight hit on the fee they receive for Phillips, didn't they get him on the cheap (@ just over £40m), because he decided that he only wanted to go there? As you suggest, I can see West Ham going for him with their Rice money and probably Liverpool too. He had his chance to join us and he didn't want to, I doubt that he would now, given those alternatives. Walker may look for a club abroad, I would be surprised to see him back here in our shirt again.

If we are to look at the odd PL player, I still wonder whether we might offer a PL lifeline to the likes of JWP, Gnonto or Harvey Barnes.

I think adding pace and strength is vital but not at the expense of technical ability.

Looking forward to the Summer.

Both would be a bonus

Your post made me think of this.

Not sure about these links to Walker and Phillips...

Walker undoubtably a top player but it would be a real surprise.

Interestingly I remember his first stint at Villa on loan back in 2010-11, he was very good and was keen to make the move permanent.

Maybe we sign Phillips just to troll Dirty Leeds...

Just to loop back to the (absolutely barmy) talk of Vlahovic; there's no world where he wouldn't cost us at least as much as we got for selling Grealish.  Fiorentina got about £70m for him and that was just last year.

Why would we sign Pau Torres? We know Unai likes to have a left footer at LCB, and replacing Mings would be a truly stupid use of cash.

Big fan of Mings and how good he’s been since Emerys come in, but Torres would be an upgrade and I wouldn’t be against it.

Surprisingly we haven’t been linked to a RB to much.  Its by far the weakest part of the team.  Good has young as been he doesn’t last a full match either.
Id bet that that position will be one of first filled.  Also don’t get why we’re been linked to lb’s, unless Dinge has already gone or going

We're missing height...  We have one of the shortest starting 11s in the Premier League.

Yep.

Pep said it a while back about Man city......if its good enough ,for him to say, its good enough for me.

Technical ability is still key, but it would be remiss of me to not be aware of Rodri's physical attributes.

Short players can still impose themselves, as Mo Salah highlights when holding the ball up.....years back Giles and Bremner, were no slouches either.....but when teams play high balls, particularly at set pieces, we need to be equipped.

We have been relying on Tyrone for that, for too long.....We are also short at our corners too.

Its an issue, I hope we address in the summer.

I think its important that we improve our physical standing, in key area's.

Aerial balls can be a tactical enhancement if executed well, and added to a good footballing side.

To dismiss this aspect as irrelevant, is missing a trick.

Its clear that emerging teams like Brentford and Fulham have embraced this crucial element, to good effect.....both are much harder to play against.
