Ratings & Reactions: Leeds v Villa

Martinez - had absolutely sod all to do.

Cash - brilliant all game. Sets up the first rescuing a chance that looked to have gone, gets a great second goal when he had all of Yorkshire to work with, and never stopped running. Superb 

Chambers - solid defensively and that goal, crikey. Astonishing finish.

Mings - lives rent free in every Leeds fans mind.

Digne - defensively he's suspect but going forwards he does give us a bit more threat and gets involved in a lot of good moves. Probably best summed up with the lovely link up with Ings that eventually lead to the first goal.

Luiz - could of nice set pieces but this was the kind of match that wasn't going to make a DM shine.

McGinn - tenancious and really unlucky to not take a goal home.

Ramsay - a quiet game. Flashes of what quality he has, powering forwards, but then kinda had the game pass him by.. He's probably earned a game or 2 rest.

Coutinho - what more can you say. Ball sucks to him like a magnet, needs 3 men to tackle him, and makes magic happen. Superb.

Watkins - looks more comfortable and confident than he has all season. Still has the usual issues - he's never going to be the guy that makes that pass to his teammate when he could shoot instead. But not bad.

Ings - tonight you saw why he's a good player. He didn't score, but his movement made chances on its own, his link up with Digne made a goal from nothing, and his assist for Cash was obscenely good.

Sanson - came on and immediately showed he's got quality. Lovely touches and link up, calm and up for a fight too. Needs to play.

Buendia - such good passing and vision. And incredible fight in him. Great.

Young - came on to see the game out and did exactly that. Showed how good he was in one moment where he volleyed a throw in, first time, a perfect cross field pass to Cash.

Great performance. Great. Leeds weren't great, but their style of super intense pressing will hurt many sides even with their issues, and we weathered it and smashed them. It really should have been 6, at least.

Dunno tbh … they were on him from the start and singing that he was shit 

He did seem a bit rattled early doors but settled down the more the game went on and he put in a good performance I thought

Has anybody been  able to figure out what happened in the 78th min when it looked like Watkins just had to head it into an empty net and somehow the ball went away from goal 

Amazon had a shit camera angle and no replay … I’m assuming the falling defender somehow flicked it away ? Or did it bounce off Ollie somehow ?

Brilliant team performance tonight, apart from the first 10-15 minutes of the second half where Leeds looked slightly threatening we totally dominated all over the pitch. With Coutihno pulling the strings we look a bloody good team. 

Also the subs did well when they came on, can't remember the last time we had a bench with that much quality ready to come on.

Leeds look even worse than under biesla. I mean i am thrilled they sacked him as i dont think we would have battered leeds like we did tonight if biesla was still there

That was seriously **** enjoyable.  I thought we might nick 12 or 13 tonight but I'll take that all day long.  The fact they were so loud and we pummeled them into some sort of weird submission was so sweet hahaha.

Another goal contribution for Ings too. Delighted for him as his role here looked bleak a couple of months ago.

Really good performance, we’re starting to put together good showings in both halves of matches which is obviously a huge plus.

Cash is looking lethal in all aspects of his game, Chambers looks like an unbelievable free transfer (lots of time for that to change of course, just for balance), Coutinho is linking the play so well and both Ings and Watkins look revitalised.

We’ve got a really tough sequence of fixtures coming up, hopefully we can show up like this against better opposition, starting on Sunday.

3 wins on the bounce with 3 clean sheets and 9 goals, pretty much unheard of. Gerrard has hit on a nicely balanced lineup, by going back to the Watkins-Ings combo that didn't seem to work at all before. It's harsh on Buendia to be sitting on the bench when you can see the quality he brings when he came on. But fitting him and Coutinho in together is perhaps a bit too much luxury for most Premier League sides. Defence stuck to the job and were strong on set pieces so Leeds couldn't capitalise when they did get a spell of pressure early in 2nd, then the quality going forward showed.

The fact we can have likes of Bailey and Traore unused and unneeded subs, and Buendia just a 15 min cameo, well we haven't been in that kind of position for years.

Okay, only midtable and with a harder run of fixtures and a gap in points not much chance of finishing much higher, but good to feel we're going in the right direction.
