Lets not judge too much, outside of Grealish, our biggest out goings in the past 5 years are:

  • Amavi - 9m (after buying him for 10m)
  • Veretout - 6m (after buying him for 9m)
  • Samatta - 5m (after buying him for 9.5m)
  • Gollini - 4m (after buying him for 4.5m)
  • Baker - 3.9m (the only one on this list we actually made a profit on, due to being a youth project)
  • Kodjia - 2.7m (after buying him for 12m)

If you go back 6 years we can include:

  • Gueye - 7.7m (after buying him for 8m)
  • Traore - 7.5m (after buying him for 9m)
  • Gestede - 6.4m (after buying him for 7.7m)

The only positive in recent times (outside of Grealish), is going back 7 years:

  • Benteke - 42m (after buying him for 8m)

And Delph?

Yea, we've been a basket case for a decade really.

Hopefully that's all behind us now.

£6m sold for £8m 😒 should have been worth £25m

But in fairness did surprise his agent and sign a contract to get us that £8m rather than leave for nothing out of gratitude for the way the club looked after him when he was injured and because he thought it would help maintain his good relationship with the fans.

Hence the lovely reception he receives each time he returns to Villa Park

Unfortunately the wally then gave an interview saying how he wanted to stay when he had no interest in doing so, so all that was removed.

Not concerned about him being 33 at the end of the contract. He is built like Vardy and Giggs . Wiry and light on his feet. And after watching his videos he is lightyears quicker than Mr Targett.

This should prove to be a very astute signing .

Wierd that he is excited to play for Gerrard but then i reversed it in my head . The equivalent of say McGinn being excited to play for Zidane. Its easily understood then

Exactly.

When players get into their early 30’s they have to rely much more on their ability to read the game as well. I shudder to think what Targett will be doing in his 30’s when he gets even slower.

Probably stood in the SSN studio on deadline day talking about Southampton’s transfers whilst looking into the wrong camera.
