Philippe Coutinho

Yeah our bid is accepted automatically for £33m. We just need to agree terms with Coutinho who I'd assume wants £10m per year or a clause that makes him highest player at the club for next two seasons etc..

So if our bid is automatically accepted at £33m it doesn't hurt if purslow goes in now with a £25m plus potential bonuses or a wage contribution from them if they do have more money now... Worst case we piss them off but they're powerless to stop us eventually bidding £33m

Doesn't hurt to have a play with the safety net in place

I will never understand Barcelona. A couple of months ago, they were about to go under. Now they’re starting to play better and suddenly want to sign every star player on the planet: Mbappe, Haaland, Lewandowski, Salah. Plus some minor riff-raff like Raphinha.

The least they can do is give us Coutinho for free, they don’t have room for him anyway. And what about their recent signings Aubameyang and Ferran Torres, will they even make the bench?

It was one of the biggest problems with the super league, clubs that are **** terrible with money need more money so that they can keep being terrible with it rather than sort their own houses out

Barca have seemingly just kicked their troubles in to the long grass and will carry on being a mess albeit slightly better on the pitch at least

Income. They have a massive massive massive income. The La Liga rules, you provide proof you can pay all your outgoings with all your incomings for that season.

Barcelona bring in huge revenues. They've got rid of a lot of the amortisation and salary they had so are able to register a lot of players this summer

noun: amortisation
  1. the action or process of gradually writing off the initial cost of an asset.
"due to the amortization of initial costs, the risks of negative working capital are mitigated"

For those of you not familiar with the meaning, unlike myslf and CV,😗

Yeah that's how they can do it

Its not an explanation as to why a club who ran themselves in to huge trouble would then just choose to carry on doing the exact same thing rather than look to change their trouble making philosophy

They've learned absolutely nothing

They'll pay auba £400k a week not to play while paying salah £600k a week, when they realise auba is a bad idea they'll give him to someone for free while paying 60% of his wages

Their idea is to manage their outgoings by simply increasing their income, it's **** stupid

They currently have a deal with authorities which allows them to spend one euro for every four they bring costs down. Signing all those players don’t seem like a way to bring costs down but I’m sure they’ll figure it out.

My guess is a lot of it has to do with them wanting to be a major player in the market again. Whoever signs the most expensive players wins, actual football is secondary. The Mino Raiola and Fabrizio Romano era, where winning the summer window beats winning the league.

the thing that has me is that they wanted to make our option a mandatory one, which iirc would've meant that he would have had to agree to contract terms with us before even moving on loan.

From what I've read, Barca were never as financially **** as it seemed. Rather, Laporta's plan was to take on all the financial hits early. That way, they could easily blame the troubles of the club on the previous presidents failings whilst leaving them with ample financial resources to finance a proper rebuild in the future.

And yes, this includes them letting Messi go. Apparently, they could've retained Messi, they just chose not to.

The transfer window prevents this surely?

You could bid less, even agree a deal but you cannot transfer the players registration.

You can sign the paperwork, the registration won't change but the contract can be done

You can buy players whenever you want, you're right in that you can only transfer their registration during the window

Reading all the comments from random idiots on Twitter and Reddit about this is hilarious...  You'd think Coutinho is over the hill, unambitious, and/or gouging us for even entertaining the idea of signing with the mid-table tinpot, "yo yo club", hoofball merchants that are Aston Villa.  Some Spurs fans are still convinced that they somehow have an option to buy Coutinho written in Villa's loan agreement with Barca...  Can't make this up!

Spurs have supposedly agreed the same fee to buy from Barcelona. I don’t doubt Barcelona would be willing to offer the same price to other clubs.
