Dele Alli is the type of signing we had been making in the last 3-10 years that got us in a mess.

Past it players on the decline who still demand massive contracts.

It's no coincidence that our fortunes started changing for the better when we started signing upcoming younger talent before they hit their prime .

Big no from me, that goes for Jesse Lingard too.

Alli is only 24 so I think that's a bit premature.  Having said that I don't think he would sign and I don't think we are even interested, I just think Mourinho is nowadays a pretty average manager whose ego means he has to single a player out at whichever club he goes to.  Lingard is the kind of Man Utd player that Ferguson would magically make into a decent PL winning squad player despite being shit.  Now he is utterly redundant.

An alternative prospect to Charles De Ketelaere  https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charles-de-ketelaere/profil/spieler/435772

who I mentioned yesterday from Club Brugge is Christoph Baumgartner from Hoffenheim.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christoph-baumgartner/profil/spieler/324278

Both play similar positions and obtainable IMO and an upgrade on Hourihane.

Suat Serdar from schalke is another name worth monitoring as a long term option. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/suat-serdar/profil/spieler/261905

I’d like us to sign Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic @ CB who could be  our next Laursen or Mellberg.

What about Kramaric? Didn't work out for him at Leicester but he was very young then so similar to our 2015 intake. Feels like the perfect sort of striker for what we need, someone who can play CF or wide in the front 3 as he's done at Hoffenheim. Has a pretty good scoring record for them I think over last few seasons.

"JLingz" is terrible, and the wages he is on?, no thanks.

Alli, wasnt he singled out because he was lazy?, again.....not exactly the culture we want at Villa imo.

The lad has some speed about him and his acceleration for many defenders can be a nightmare.

If Wolves didnt value him so highly i do think we could make use of the lad in a few different ways dont you??

I think Lingard although hes been around the block and then some would be okay but what really puts me off is his injury record.

Not so sure about Alli but these players are now has been that there current clubs want to get rid of for one reason or another and I thi k we would be wise not to fall into the trap of giving them something back and being lumbered with them.

See Barkley is a complete different signing, young and kept himself fit, healthy and fighting for a place at Chelsea despite not being a regular starter.

I'm sure each of these big clubs have a player we could pick up and remould as well as bring back to life, Smith and CO seem to do wonders with that..

I don't think that's necessarily correct. It's hip and thigh. I would know as I've got the same injury myself. Hip, thigh, groin are often injuries that are hard to pinpoint. I went to several specialists at the olympic medical center here, and the injury and pain are often diffuse and slide across all these areas. I'm no physio mind so I'm sure if there's a physio here they could explain better. I'm utterly **** from upper thigh through groin to pulsating hip pain.

I might be wrong in zebe's case, but it's easily something that could be one spesific issue.

Wait... Are you actually Kenji Ogiwara?

Alli and Lingard are both crap. Age is irrelevant with those two. They are both well past their peak. I would avoid them both at all costs.

Alli has lost his way for sure, but he's definitely not 'crap'. I would put him on the same level as Barkley in terms of impact, because whilst I've always believed Barkley to have a higher ceiling, Alli has proven he can sustain his form for longer periods.

It's the type of signing I'd be delighted with IF we failed to nab Barkley. But as I really want to see what Deano can do with Ross, that's where my preference lies. And Alli would undoubtedly want a pretty nailed on starting opportunity.

We've moved beyond Lingard this summer. He's just not on the same level as our other midfield/attacking options.

I remember reading on an Arsenal fans thread in my local forum prior to us battering them 3-0, most Arsenal fans believe that we’ve got a better midfield than them. Alongside the fact that lingers obviously won’t make a difference here, I’m honestly pleased in how developed our midfield is.

Ross Barkley is all action. Alli could not punch his way out of a paper bag. He also has an absolutely awful attitude. We will never sign someone like him whilst Dean is in charge.

What if Alli is just at the wrong club now? Under the wrong manager?  It wasn't that long ago he was in conversations about Ballon D'Or.

I think its right to be cautious, but this is an exceptional player who has lost his way and needs to find a new home. I find it hard to believe he's past his peak at 24. Of course he isn't.

He might not find that form again, but if he does, oh boy. Imagine Alli, Barkley and Grealish interchanging behind Watkins or another top striker? With McGinn and Luiz behind them? Potentially the best in the league.

While I wouldn't be jumping with happiness about Alli, I think that is a very important point.

I think that Barkley has just found the right club.

I think another player that is crying out for a transfer is John Stones.

It might just be that Alli also needs a change of scenery to be making an impact.

I'm not as dismissive of Alli as some, but if memory serves didn't the decline set in under Poch? So not entirely down to José.

He does strike me as someone, like Lingard who's personal life has maybe become more important than his football career. Though to be fair Alli has shown his class previously whereas I've alway thought Lingard was just rubbish.

Like Trent said previously though, this has a PSG reunion with Poch written all over it.

Nope! Less useful than Trez.

Didn't they all eventually decline under Poch? Kane et al included?

Yep, they'd stopped playing for him and were horribly inconsistent, Allis decline has been happening for a few years and imo despite the great statistics he was never that good anyway, always had some goals in him but his general on the ball ability was never as good as the statistics suggested, for his age he had more goals than lampard, Gerrard and Scholes

Is Leon Bailey attainable? 🤔 Or would Traore essentially have taken that spot. I think Bailey can play anywhere across the front, been on fire this season it seems.

I'd love Leon here or Kubo, either I'd be happy..

If we had the chance then I’d definitely do. We don’t have have pace on the wing, only Traore that I’d consider a dribbler Anwar isn’t bad but isn’t good either, Trez doesn’t have it at all.
Jack and Adama would be unbelievable. I’d definitely look at the possibility of getting him.
