Moderator OutByEaster? Posted January 4, 2020 Moderator Share Posted January 4, 2020 Young Irish winger looks like he might make a debut today at Fulham. Those who've seen him play for the U23's will know he's direct, aggressive and has a bit about him. He's very young, but hopefully he gets on the pitch today and gives a good account of himself. 3

Popular Post Adam2003
I love when a young player makes his debut, just in case he happens to knock in a hattrick and go on to be sensational. I know, I know, not expecting it. But it’s always nice to dream!

A goal and two assists will be more than enough on his debut to stop him being written off on here. Provided he tracks back and clears one off the line of course.
VT Supporter Popular Post Nigel Posted January 4, 2020 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted January 4, 2020 Background Similarly to Villa skipper Jack Grealish, Wright could have been on the GAA field had things worked out differently in his youth. Cork-born Wright was a keen Gaelic Football player in his younger days, before turning his attention to the code we see at Villa Park on a weekly basis. He was spotted by a Villa scout at the age of 14 and after initially joining Villa on trial, he signed scholarship forms with the club in July 2018. According to the Irish Examiner, Wright had the chance to join local rivals Birmingham City but opted for Villa due to their superior facilities, player structure and backroom operation. International honours Wright has been a regular with the age groups from Republic of Ireland since joining the under-age set up at 15In 2017, he won the Victory Shield with Ireland and has played in two U17 European Championships, as well as this summer’s U19 tournament in Armenia. In 2018 he was part of the Irish side that were controversially beaten by hosts Netherlands in a penalty shootout that saw their keeper sent off for coming off the line. His most notable performance in an Emeral shirt arguably came at the end of 2019, when Wright notched four goals in a 13-0 win over Gibraltar. Close links The Villa youngster was born in the same town in Cork as the late Liam Miller. The former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder, tragically passed away in 2018, aged just 36.But there was a familial connection with Wright, with his aunt and uncle both close friends with Miller. It was a loss that hit Wright hard: "It was really sad to see, we were all devastated.. "We went to see his family and it was devastating to see them upset. “My uncle and mum always spoke highly about him, that he was an unbelievable professional, he was humble and always had time for everyone, that he was a top guy.” Where does he play Predominantly left footed, Wright can play on either wing and does have an eye for goal. Notching three times for Mark Delaney’s side this season. That form has seen Dean Smith call him up to training with the senior squad and has obviously been suitably impressed. mikeyp102
Good for him. It’s about time we started a few more youngsters. The transition from youth team to first team has been lacking for years.

useless
Looking on a Walsall forum and it seems that they're desperate for a right winger, so at least it looks like he's going somewere where his playing position is needed and so should have a chance of getting plenty of game time.

skarroki
Sounds like a good move for all parties and hope he can hold a position down with them. I assume this is why he wasn't given a game against Liverpool, because he had to isolate before announcing switching clubs? Or just to ensure he didn't pick up an injury? I was thinking this could point to maybe a couple of our other young players being on there way out as well that didn't feature.
