I wouldn't be surprised if there is a reasonable buyout clause in his contract. I mean it’s irrelevant really. We’d sell any of our players if a team offered enough money. So from that perspective, any of them could leave any time - clause or no clause.
useless
Since NSWE came in we're actually not in the habit of selling our best players,̴ the only exception being Grealish,̴ but he was an extreme outlier in the sense that he wasn't just one of our best players but arguably one of the best in the world;̷ all our other players like Martinez,̴ Cash,̴ Mings,̴ Luiz,̴ Ramsey,̴ Watkins and probably others get linked with moves away to so called bigger clubs but none of them have left because generally speaking we're not a selling team.̷ Edited June 11, 2023 by useless

He's the most replaceable out of the 2. But......we have to stop this scenario where we end up selling the beginnings of a good team, he obviously has a lowish release clause. Letting him go into the final year of his contract was where the issue started..........who's to blame? Luiz is probably the most important player in the middle of the pitch for us. He is the player that dictates play for us when we have the ball. He's been given our Pirlo role and he's excelled at it since Emery arrived. He's close to being the ideal midfielder for Unaiball.

Lord Willard
Brazilians just live for football like no other nation. Dougie is back in Brazil and forever just playing footvolley. Can easily see why Brazilians have a natural flare.

BleedClaretAndBlue
I love that Emery values Dougie the way he deserves to be, and basically wants to build the team around him. Such a good player, he was a joy to watch last season and will go down as the best Brazilian player to ever don the claret and blue
Reivax_Villa
So happy that he signed that contract with us. He was nailed on to be Gundogan's replacement if that City clause was still there..

Popular Post Jas10
Douglas Luiz on Arsenal's offer: "Aston Villa is a great club, the decision I took [to follow] was the right one, I had a great season. The arrival of Unai [Emery, coach] helped a lot in my evolution. my best season and I am very happy about it.” Douglas Luiz: "Returning to the national team is my main objective. The national team is the moment, the player's phase and physical form. My goal is this, to have a good pre-season and maintain my level. I live my best professional moment, I'm at my best league in the world, and I want to continue at this level." Douglas Luiz on not going to the Cup: "I'm on the positive side. I was sad, because I participated in the Qualifiers, Copa América, Olympics, the cycle gave me hope. But I continued working and rooting for my friends. I have no regrets, I have a lot to thank Tite Douglas Luiz says he was rooting for Argentina in the final, for his friend Dibu Martínez: "I cheered. In fact, there were two teams that I wanted not to be there, but it's better that the friend wins, right. He has his provocative character, but outside It's quieter, it's super nice people." Douglas Luiz on Olympic goals: "The secret is training and catching the goalkeeper off guard, now unfortunately it's not possible anymore, they're smart... I did it with Martinez in training, he even said he left it to give confidence" Douglas Luiz on free-kicks: "I've always hit the ball well, it's training, confidence. But to tell you the truth, these last few months I wasn't even training, I was a little discouraged because Aston Villa don't suffer many fouls" Douglas Luiz denied that athletes are prohibited from training fouls. "We have to know our body and know the day to train. The DM prevents injuries, it really monitors, we know when we are fine. But nobody will forbid it, the player knows when he can train a foul" Douglas recalled controversy with presenter Neto. "I know he's a controversial guy. There was a day when he mentioned my name, I didn't like the way he said it. I'm a professional, people should respect it. There he gave me the freedom to answer, but it's nothing personal, since it happened" Created by Vasco, Douglas spoke about the club. "Those who are from Vasco da Gama always have hope, even in the worst moment, we still believe (...) The fans are not happy at this moment, but we believe that Vasco will fight with the big ones again." Edited July 4, 2023 by Jas10
Jas10
Emi left his shot (from a corner) to give him confidence? Hmm… I do believe we have a happy and tight knit group and no one agitating for a move away (moreso, those on the sidelines wanting to be more involved)… must be such a positive, enlightening experience to be coached by Unai and performances & results bringing more faith, belief, trust and unity… What a great time to be at the club and to follow the club… onwards and upwards! That’s the atmosphere Emery was talking about when he came here initially about wanting to create a “small family” a phrase I’ve came across myself in my sporting days it doesn’t quite translate the same into English for some reason but the concept is self explanatory.
