Ezri Konsa

Lots of uncertainty in that article from Matt Law:

But the defender could be out for even longer, possibly over a month

although Konsa is still being assessed and there remains the possibility that the club’s worst fears are not realised.

Basically - sounds as though it is still to be determined how bad or not the injury is and we should know more from Emery in the pre-match interview tomorrow...

**** cursed with injuries. How we are performing at the level we are having lost the following to injury for a number of games - Pau, Moreno, Digne, Mings, Konsa, Ramsey, Buendia, Tielemans

Cash Carlos Lenglet and Moreno is concerning.

Didn’t Konsa smash into the post? That’s unlucky.

Yeah. While he was playing.

It’s unlucky to crash into the post. But the odds of you doing so are more likely if you’re actually playing than they are if you’re sat on the bench. Like the vast majority of injuries.

And you’re more likely to be on the pitch to sustain an injury if you’re an important player. Which is why it so often is one of our better/more important players, because they play more. It’s in answer to the OP about why it always seems to be our more important players.

It’s irritating. It’s just not supernatural.

Plus I’d say at least around 6 or 7 of the starting 11 would be deemed important. The higher number of important players we have, the higher the chance of injury.

Compared to some other teams (Tottenham, Newcastle, Chelsea, Brighton etc.) our injury list hasn't been too bad overall this season. But losing Konsa and Pau at the same time, when Mings is already out for the season, is pretty detrimental it has to be said.

We are without 2 first team players for a season and other 2 for nearly half a season and then when we finally get a few back, we lose Kamara for 3 games, Torres and Digne for over 6 weeks and counting. Tielemans has also missed games injured and now it looks like Konsa. We’ve had it as bad as all the other clubs with nowhere near the squad depth, odd but much like everything else the media never mention this.

Dendonker somewhere in Naples having an evil laugh right now like:

" Oh Villa... If only you had a big Belgian lad who could play CB in your ranks 🤔 "

We'd be better off with Jean-Claude van Damme in defence than him.

We have someone that played 2 seasons at CB for Marseille but more likely to play Lenglet and Carlos

I think it hurts us more because for us to break that top 4 we really do need luck with injuries and we’re not getting enough of it. Teams around could have a season of injuries but the year later they’ll be back in for a title challenge or top 4. For us you wonder when it could happen again.

Beat me to it!

We’ll play the same centre half pairing we did the last game. That isn’t the issue. They just lose the security of Konsa on the right side of them. If Cash can be more disciplined he could actually do this job.

Hopefully he won't be out for too long.

Whilst him being out will be a blow that blow is at least softened a little because he has played a decent amount of games this season at right back which has allowed Carlos/Torres and Carlos/Lenglet to build up an understanding.

To be fair I'm not sure how I totally forgot about Lenglet.

I get your point re Kamara, however, I reckon he's specialised in his position now, and not sure how he'd cope here exclusively as a CB.

He's also got a clanger in him every now and then, would rather that be further up the pitch.

Never know though!

Also think Lenglet is fine for the most part... But also has a clanger in him as we know 🤦🏿‍♂️

Maybe more responsibility and a run of games will see him come on more.
