Frédéric Guilbert

Absolute disgusting, no man management and we aren't exactly filled with great right backs

Cash gives all but he isn't Cafu FFS and is struggling last few games. This is an amateur run club led by a class clown at the moment.

This berk is so annoying.

This goes both both ways of course.

We signed him, gave him his contract. Now we're paying all of it until January and he isn't even registered to play for us. That's cutting off our nose to spite our face.

I'm sure Strasbourg or whoever would have taken him on for £2k a week until January. Or £500 a week. That's money we aren't paying.

why, when excluding Guilbert means we would only name 23/25 for the main squad (ie: not inc. younger players), did we not include a fit and available right back in Guilbert???

Because Gerrard is a poisonous piece of shit. When we got promoted Smith still included Lansbury, Taylor in the squad for example

That's called man management, I said when he joined that Gerrard is a poison at Aston Villa and when he is removed we can move forward

I don't think it's our of malice or anything, he just doesn't have the experience to know any better. Throughout his playing career he was the golden boy, undroppable captain fantastic etc etc for club and country. I don't think he can really empathize with players not being happy with their place in the squad. There's a balance you have to try to strike as a manager. You're not going to keep every player happy but you have to at least look like you're trying.

If this is the case, he's a complete moron then.

He shouldn't have a professional football manager's job, and we certainly shouldn't be paying him as an elite manager. I would expect Chelsea still aren't paying Potter what we're paying Gerrard. Embarrassing.

It's on Purslow. His decision is like the CEO version of making McGinn captain. If this doesn't work out I wouldn't be surprised if he's also on the chopping block.

Great comparison.

I just hope the owners have more external reviews coming into them so they get the real picture. They've let "football man" Purslow run the club and he's given his mate a crucial job with no evidence he's capable.

If its a case of not having enough room to register him, then fair enough (not 100% sure on how much homegrown registered players we need. But looking through that, it says we are only using 23/25 of the slots, so you really have to question why is he not being registered if he could be and there is no difference. That would be disgracefully dumb -- especially if we get hit with injuries.

And got to say, it's interesting that it is Guilbert being left out and not Sanson

The thing is that we have 4 players who can play right back in Cash, Young, Chambers and Konsa so an injury crisis is not a major concern. I'm not sure who the strongest u21 right back is either who might be able to step up ahead of him but there are a few who have played there.

Technically they were still first team players when we were promoted. Taylor started against spurs first game back and Lansbury was subbed on a few times. Our squad was desperate

Money isn't everything though? Mental health is extremely important, but you don't need me to tell you that.

Fred has always come across as a very straight talking guy to me. I get the impression he's been left in the dark a lot at Villa. And I don't mean by him not being played, I get the impression he's not being told what the hell his situation is.

That’s the thing though, we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, it’s all speculation. I find it very hard to believe a professional football club isn’t talking to a player to update them on their future.

If things were so terrible for him he could have handed in a transfer request.

Maybe he isn’t just isn’t good enough, has anybody thought about that?

Two managers now who don’t use him. Either he’s crap or has the worst attitude in the world.

He's definitely not good enough so I we demand stupid money for him. I'm sure we could have let him  go on a free or minimal price.

For the record I never saw us shifting him without taking a hit but this is just really poor form again.

Pay him up or stop giving players not good enough stupid deals we don't want to commit to.

He may not be amazing, he probably isn't, but in France he was regularly a very good performer.

For me this isn't about whether he is good enough to be a first team starter, but:

- if we cant sell him or loan him, and

- the full squad allocation isn't even taken up, and

- we don't have a plethora of right backs, and

- if cash got a season long injury we would be reliant on a 90 year old playing 90 minutes of every game as cover

- yet we chose not to register a fit, reasonably capable specialist right back.......

Just stinks of something going on.

It might be that guilbert is a problem, maybe he isn't, we don't know, but what I know is that on face value it doesn't make sense to not register him, its idiotic.

Absolutely this, and not just under SG, he was loaned out under Deano too, only played the first half of one season for us. We don't know what is going on but as many people don't like Gerrard and or Purslow it is to be expected to see the blame land with them

we should just do the decent thing for him and terminate the contract so he can go on a free somewhere.....we look very amateruish in a lot of ways, players talk and word can get round....who knows we might want more promising young french players in future and if they see how someone they know and respect has been treated then it can make the difference for them when picking between clubs. A bit of diplomacy, respect and goodwill wouldnt go amiss right now

Eh, to terminate the contract Villa would have to pay him everything he would be paid during the contract.

Unless he’s willing to waive a large chunk of that, then no benefit to us to terminate his contract.

If he wants to play football, then it’s his choice if he would rather have money and sit at home doing nothing, or get paid much less and play football elsewhere.

Hes obviously chosen the money.
