Tyrone Mings

A potential 15 months out and given our direction of travel, and his age, I hope this isn't the last time we see him put on a Villa shirt. The sad thing is that he had really found his form again under Emery last season.

What is the usual protocol for footballers with long-term injuries re: being around the team? Obviously they’ll take time off to have assessments, surgery, rest and then physiotherapy, but do they still attend team meetings or sit in on training?

I guess my point is that if Ty is still a presence for us during the week leading up to a game, and assuming he attends the matches, then at least his leadership will be felt in some way. Obviously it’s not the same as him barking orders on the pitch, but we haven’t totally lost his influence. Hopefully he’ll help the CBs in particular, and one or two of them will step up.

Good thing with Mings is he seems the type who will find productive things to do while he’s injured. Won’t go off the rails, will do all the rehab properly. Probably see him popping up as a pundit over the next year.

It’s a nasty injury but I think he can come back from it and still have another few years of a top flight career.

This club breaks your heart. We have had so many horrible injuries and always key players. We can never catch a break.

A break would be preferable to all these horrible knee ligament injuries.

Ok… maybe this is a bit of a stretch…

I have been really distressed by this and long admired Ty…

But.. trying to find the positive in such a dire situation…

Maybe now… once again, we are forced to stop relying on an individual player so heavily? I mean, Ty has basically been our defence, at least led and organised it more than anyone else, for so long now. In the past, we have fallen apart when he’s not been there.

Similarly to how JG was pretty much our attack….

Now… we have to become even more of a team… Unai has had us playing as a more compete team and not relying on an individual or figurehead too heavily in our build up and attack…

Maybe the same sort of thing happens in defence now…

Let’s get that Pau and Diego partnership firing… the hope is that this recruitment has lessened our reliance on Ty anyway.. and we wouldn’t have been so negatively affected when he had to sit out a game or two…

It’s still really sad though 😔

I would argue it’s different. That team entirely revolved around getting the ball to Grealish and letting him do his thing. Where as Mings is a crucial part but similar to how Saliba’s injury affected Arsenal. This is just the unfortunate side of sports. An injury to a star player is going to hurt no matter who else is on the team.

But to go along with your post, this happened at the very beginning of the season with the window still open. If it was to happen, better now while we still have an entire season versus later on right before a crucial point in the season.

Absolutely gutted for Ty, and bad news of course for us. I wish him a full recovery and hope he can play a part for us again in future, but of course we must try to build a new defence without him in the meantime.

You can't help but wonder sometimes whether some unseen force is **** us over. We've had very little to smile about for a long time until the last season where we finally appointed a suitable manager and had a strong season at the top level. Everyone was extremely optimistic about this season, myself included, and then out of nowhere within the space of a couple of days we get season ending injuries to two players.

I know other teams have injuries but we have had long term injuries (I.e. out for the entire season) to Heaton and Wesley in our first season back, Diego Carlos last season, and Buendia and Mings only one game into this one. Five season ending injuries in four seasons. How the f*ck is that even possible?

Anyway, all the best to Ty in his rehabilitation.

Given the update sounds worse than the Buendia one, my mind immediately assumed at least 12. 😞

They used the same words in both announcements. Or did I miss something? Maybe I did.

Where did you pull 15 months out from? I don't know why there's the need to make things seem even worse.

I think the plan was to transition off being totally reliant on him. The issue is we need the right CB partnership and Torres and Konsa doesn't feel like it'll work in the Premier League. Carlos and Konsa and Torres and Carlos work. Also if we planned to play 3 CBs in games we are short now as Chambers lacks pace to play high line consistently. He's more a utility player.

I don't know how we can keep spending though. So we might just have to be stuck with the players we have and hope Carlos can adapt quickly

Buendia is on Insta at his son's bday party looking cheerful and with his left knee in some sort of heavy strapping

So gutted for Ty! Him and McGinn have been the heart and soul of our team since the championship and he’ll be sorely missed!

To come back so well from the Gerard period and finish the season so well. Also getting back in the England set up. He’ll come back from this too.

Buendia's said this :

Quote

Buendía will now be under review ahead of a further consultation with a knee specialist.

Tyrone had "before a lengthy rehabilitation process" on the end of his.

I know Buendia's will be lengthy anyway, but they didn't say that specific so makes me think their view is Ty's is worse
