Transfer Window Summer 2018

It still surprises me that we have such a basic view of signings and squads that it's either all young players (with something to prove obviously, we don't want those young players that have nothing to prove*) or experienced players (those that have been there and done it rather than journey men of course...*).

Surely by now it's universally recognised you need a blend of both? Or is that ridiculous thinking?!

When people talk of getting young and hungry (and cheap) players in because of resell value and their energy and determination, it's like it's revolutionary thinking. If it was that easy, everyone would do it. For every Gareth Barry there's a Jordan Bowery. And if we look at the young players we've brought in to the squad they've hardly set the league on fire.

I don't mind a youthful focus, that makes sense, but we've tried all young hungry players before and it rarely works. We need a few players in that we are a much safer bet.

*please note, clear sarcasm!

He's pretty legit.

IIRC, a long time ago he did provide a steer that didn't work out and he is now a lot more careful about what he says. If he says something is, it is. It can still go wrong, of course - what you might call, in scientific terms, The Unsworth Paradigm Shift.

However, as ITK go, he's as good as we have.

I think the experience is already there, so we don’t need to bring anymore in.

Chester, Elmo, Hutton, Whelan, Thor, Hourihane, Adomah, Kodjia are the experienced heads, arguably Nyland too.

Add a couple of our youngsters (Green, RHM) and a few other younger heads, but also have Championship experience (Bryan, Powell), then on paper at least that seems like a decent blend.

If jack is leaving can we be greedy and get Ryan Woods aswell?

A midfield 3 of:

....................Woods..................

Hourihane...................McGinn....

Adds so much pace, and completely changes the whole dynamic of the team.

Enjoying the transfer activity just hope we can also shift unwanted players out, preferably on permanent deals. Squad needs trimming and we need to offload the extra wages.

Sorry that is not going to happen. Why would players like Tishboloa, Richards, McCormack, and to a lesser extent, Lansbury, want to move from Villa to take a massive pay cut to another championship club at best? If any of that lot is to leave, it is going to be loans and for us to lose slighlty less money on about 20 million in transfers for the lot of them.

We ARE spending it on players though!!

We have new owners with money.

And that is what is funding the purchase of new players.

These guys are not dependent on money from the sale of Grealish or any other player to buy new players.
