I’ve come to expect football to get increasingly worse before it collapses or becomes unrecognisable. Hyper-commercialised and VAR-tainted, with a hefty dose of sportswashing. The Premier League beyond Villa games is of little interest to me, the Champions League even less so. I didn’t watch a second of the last World Cup and international football in general is just something that interferes with the club calendar for me.

Lower league football from England and Germany is better fun, and while sadly VAR-tainted, at least the Norwegian league is too small to be subject to hyper-commerce and sportswashing. I just want to watch 22 guys kick a ball around, jump and sing and have a party, and to celebrate when my team scores. I want proper football fans in the stands who are passionate about their clubs and create a proper atmosphere. I just want to have the game I love and dedicate so much of my time and money to. I don’t want greedy c***s, gloryhunters and human rights abusers to steal it.

Overall football is just getting increasingly worse (or, I'm getting increasingly old and grumpy?  Might be that) - even as a Villa fan which is perverse given that we're currently in the most optimistic position we've been in a long time.

It's just ALL about money.  Sell your soul, it doesn't matter - we only care about the money.  We need the money for the players.  When do we want the players?  Immediately.  And they better be good immediately too, otherwise we'll slag them off and want them out the club immediately too.  And then can we just sign more players immediately?  Why haven't we signed 20 players yet?  We're doing nothing in the transfer window ffs!  **** sake, we have no chance in bettering our 7th place now.  The sportswashers will win the league and we'll go back to being also rans.  If only we signed 20 players.

It really is shit.  Does anyone actually look forward to football these days, or do they just want to moan about the sportswashing/refs/VAR/money/lack of money/players/female managers?

I'm the same when it comes to the CL. Haven't watched a game in many, many years. I think the last CL game I watched on TV was Liverpool in Istanbul when they beat Milan on pens.

As for Prem games, I watched 2 on TV last season that weren't Villa, although attended a good few others for work.

I went to Qatar for the WC for the same reasons but never watch Internationals on TV.

I have t watched the FA Cup final on TV since the 90s.

I used to watch everything. Now it's just Villa.

I agree with pretty much everything you have to say.

Me personally I am done with international football. Unless FIFA gets a total overhaul (wish!), the World Cup can do one.

I can only watch Villa now. I don't expect them to win the league anytime soon, as that door has been nailed shut, but I like the warm fuzzy feeling a win gives me.

Agree 100%. That's why we love going to the Stockports, Bradfords, Swindons etc of this world El Zen (already looking forward to September!). My hunch is that within 10 years we will have seen major changes in football globally. I seriously think FIFA will fold and I think UEFA will be forced into major changes - this will be pushed by European politics as the current money laundering and involvement with terrorists and anti human right states and other stakeholders will not be accepted in the long run. The Super League in Europe will be a reality in one shape or the other, also because Saudi and the Arab world will have become a competitor to European leagues and I think we may see European (and English) football lose quite a bit of its current front position, also economically. However, we will still be going to obscure places in the UK, we will still be too drunk when we do and we will still love Aston Villa. So there you go, the future is all laid out.

Season tickets for Shrewsbury Town in league 1 next season start at £420, rising to £550 for good seats.

League 1!

That is f***ing mental.

Tamworth in the league below the conference charging £368 for a seating ST.

I think the problem comparing smaller clubs with PL clubs on pricing is that the big clubs have lots of revenue streams and ticket sales make up a very small proportion. Down the leagues the ticket sales are a much bigger proportion of their budget.

Yes, and you can't scale the season tickets proportionally to the difference in quality so it's a bit of a red herring. Otherwise if you set the scale at affordable for the Premier League, then non-league sides wouldn't even cover their costs, or if you started the scale at enough for non-league sides then PL sides would be unaffordable for anyone on anything close to the UK average wage.

Declan Rice 105 million

Phillips, Rice and Henderson is Southgate preferred midfield(probably fuming Bellingham is so good) with zero creativity cost about 150 million and another is on the verge of getting 700k a week 😂😂

For quite some time there was talk about who would be the first £1m a week footballer, when it would happen etc.

£1m a week kinda happened without a huge deal of fuss and shot up further.

Theres a whole bunch of footballers on much more than £1m a week now. Talk of players like Benzema and Ronaldo on $2m or more than $3m a week. Messi will be well above $1m a week too I’m certain.

PSG are reportedly preparing a 10year, €2m a week deal for Mbappe.

Haaland is probably the closest to £1m a week in the PL if the £850k/w is to be believed.

With the likelihood of City cooking the books I wouldn’t be surprised if the likes of Haaland are on double what they claim.

However, it just shows how these nation state owned teams have too much income to offset these costs. It’s ridiculous that PSG could propose such a salary.

The whole episode with the Saudi involvement and also levels of ownership in tesms over here - notably Newcastle and also involvement in Chelsea somewhere.

Both clubs should be strangled by FFP (mainly Chelsea) but between the 3 way dance they have going on, I'm sure they will make sure it all evens itself out between them.

The fact that Chelsea are now in line to inherit a 50% sell on fee of £20m from Southampton when Newcastle complete the signing of their right back for £40m.

- £40m on a back up right back who has just been relegated to the championship!  If you say so... 🤨

Classic match on TV ITV4 (Villa on in a minute)

Luton v Oldham.

Sly elbow in the face from a Luton player. Ref gets visibly agitated over it.  Calls the player over, gives him a right  bollocking.  Awards a free kick, no yellow even.

Yeah this basically sums it up for me better than I could.
