Your starting XI - August 5th

Assuming Kodjia, Jedinak, DeLaet, RHM and Adomah are coming back from injury and aren't available along with Baker who is suspended I'd probably go with

Subs: Johnstone, Hutton, Samba, Amavi, Hourihane, Agbonlahor, Davis.

I think this will be the team.

However, I would go with:
Bree > Hutton
Grealish > Lansbury

I don't see the point in playing Hourihane and Lansbury. Grealish hasn't done much pre-season but he offers something a little different.

I'm not wild about that midfield in all honesty. I'd hope that with the introduction of Whelan, Hourihane and Lansbury will have the shackles let off them a bit, but this is a Steve Bruce team, so that seems unlikely. Hutton has done nothing to make me think he should be dropped, as of yet, so would still be my first choice right back.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here Marv.

I think Johnstone will start, but I'm with you and I would give Steer a go.

I think it'll be something like this. With Hourihane and Lansbury granted more freedom. Although, if Bruce is feeling adventurous he may replace one the 2 centre mods for Grealish and push him further forward.

I fancy 3 points either way.

I just hope Johnstone comes good first of all. If it doesn't go so rosy I hope there's no 'must play if fit' clause or agreement. I think it would be a bit harsh on Steer.

4-2-3-1

Johnstone

Hutton - Chester - Terry - Taylor

Whelan - Lansbury

Elmohamody - Grealish - Green

Hogan

Obvs Kodj in for Hogan when fit, and Bree to come in for Hutton when he has a dip in form.

I think Bruce will pick the same team he puts out today against Watford, will treat it as a practice match for next weekend.

Think he will go with Johnstone - Hutton, Taylor, Terry, Chester - Whelan, Lansbury, Hourihane - Elmohamady, Green, Hogan

Personally I'd prefer to have Steer in goal and Bree at right back.

Not the team I'd pick every week, but based on presumed fitness levels and preseason form...

                 Johnstone

Bree.      Chester     Terry    Taylor

Elmohammody  Whelan  Hourihane. Green

               Hogan Gabby

I think after today we should go 433 next week. Johnstone Hutton Chester Terry Taylor Whelan Hourihane Lansbury Green Elmo Hogan.

Id rather Bree start but don't see Bruce making the change. We need to attack more so Whelan to sit and Hourihane and Lansbury to get on the box as much as possible.

Head says:

Subs: Johnstone/Sarkic, Hutton, Samba, Amavi, Bjarnason, Agbonlahor, Davis

Heart would like this to work:

Subs: Johnstone/Sarkic, Hutton, Samba, Amavi, Bjarnason, Hourihane, Davis

If Johnstone, RDL, Adomah, Jedinak, Grealish, Kodjia and RHM are all still out I'll be expecting Bruce to go:

Is what I think it will be, but personally I would have Bree over Hutton and Hogan instead of Hourihane

We desperately need Kodjia back!

Not sure who he'll put in goal.  I assume it would be Johnstone if available.  Other than keeper I'd expect this though.  It certainly won't be far off.  I prefer Bree but wouldn't be surprised if he reverted back to Hutton.

This, but I think Bruce with have Lansbury in the 10 and Hourihane alongside Whelen. Decent looking 4-4-1-1. Need others to chip in with goal threat though. I predict 1-0 villa. Terry header from a corner.
