Your starting XI - August 5th

               Johnstone

Hutton Chester Terry Taylor

                Jedinak

     Hourihane   Lansbury

                    Green

        Davis          McCormack/Hogan

So far for the Hull game this would be my starting 11.

Unfortunately I can't see us having two wide players to play with Adomah now injured, Green has been our best player in pre-season and could work through the middle drifting out wide when required with Hourihane & Lansbury moving forward.

Jedinak dropping in at the back when the full backs go forward.

For me we look more effective with Davis on the pitch as he can hold up play.

Bree......Chester.....Terry.....Taylor

Hourihane..................Grealish

.........Hogan....McCormack

I'd like to see Lansbury further forward as he is useless where he has been played, too far back to be effective. His strengths are scoring and creating with an eye for a good through ball and yet he gets played way too defensively. I'd rather see him replaced than played where he is as there is no point.

When Adomah & Kodija are back then replace McCormack with Kodija and Hogan with Adomah

With that line up we'd concede few at the back and tear teams a new one in attack in my opinion with all 5 front players able to score as well as the likes of Terry & Chester able to contribute at corners etc

It would appear with the Elmo signing we will be going to a back 5.

                        Johnstone

                  Bree    Terry   Chester

Elmohamady                                    Amavi

                 Hourihane   Grealish

                          McCormack

              Kodjia                    Hogan

A formation that forces Green out of the side. Unless he plays where Amavi is if hes sold.. and if hes sold I'm sure he will play Taylor.

Geez I hope he sticks with 433. That's the only side I could see that's not defensive in a 532 formation. Although a bit weak in the middle. Playing Lansbury with Hourihane.. basically the same player. Bree played CB at Barnsley and can pass just like Terry and Chester. Every player in that line up can hold and pass a ball.. so there should be no excuses to not be able to hold the ball and create chances.

As I believe you were being a bit hard on Adomah & Amavi

That midfield would get overrun by nonleague opposition day and night.

Probably.. but we shouldnt be scared of anyone. If we can get 60% of the ball with that team.. better than having all defensive midfielders trying to hold on to 0-0 draws.

think we would need a DM if we played as a 3-5-2, just gives that extra licence for wing backs to pummel forward, think Green can easily come on as a sub in this role or even do a Victor Moses and make the role his own

I am less convinced we will move to 3-5-2 just because we signed a guy who has played in that formation. You would have thought Bruce would have tried it out in one of the 3 other games we have had thus far if that were true. Be interesting to see what we do tonight. I hope we don't as I don't see it working for a few of our players that I want in the team such as Green and Jack. Although we could force them in, I am all for square pegs square holes.  First game however, I see us playing it safe. I hope Kodjia is fit, as without him we will struggle for goals with this side unless Hogan can find some form and confidence soon.

I like it because it addresses the issue of footballers - you have - in theory - almost a whole team who can play reasonable football, and some who could, if used right, score goals.  Some of the other variations leave us too light IMO in footballers as opposed to grafters and too few who might score goals.

Having said that its a conundrum because - as TRO keeps saying  - sadly none of the midfielders look very well equipped to actually win the ball, with Lansbury maybe being best bet.

my instinct would be to bring Jedinak back in when fit for Veretout and put Veretout in the queue for one of Henri or Conor's positions. Options though.

We really need Kodjia and Adomah playing if we want to carry a goal threat. We need more than that to get automatic promotion. I hope Bruce has some ideas.

I hope those ideas consist of him on a beach.

This is what I expect Bruce to go with. Rest Jedinak, Adomah and Kodjia instead of rushing them back and risking them being out longer.

Bench: Bunn, Baker, Lansbury, Bacuna, Agbonlahor, Bjarnason, McCormack
