And yet, there's this from the BBC today:

Quote

In a bunker just outside the city limits of Bakhmut, Ukraine's 77th Brigade direct artillery fire to support their infantry - their last line of defence on the western edge of the city.

Ukraine is still clinging to the last few streets here.

What gives?

The counter attack was just outside the city in the fields to the south. From what I’ve read Ukraine finally got a decent delivery of artillery to the front there and took the Russians by surprise, leading to many casualties (Prigozhin talks about 500 troops killed in his latest video and a whole Russian unit fleeing).

Kaliningrad: Russia fury as Poland body recommends renaming exclave

The Kremlin has reacted furiously after a Polish government body advised using a different name for Russia's exclave of Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea coast.

The Polish committee said the city and wider area should instead be called Królewiec.

This was the area's traditional name, it said, and the decision no longer to use an "imposed name" was partly a result of Russia invading Ukraine.

Russia said the decision was "bordering on madness" and "a hostile act".

“Bordering on madness and a hostile act”

Just let that sink in.

That's the standard Russian line for anything they don't like. Surprised there wasn't the usual we will have to consider serious repercussions thrown in.

Prighozin seems to think this is just disinfo as he's claiming Wagner has two full assault battalions bearing down on the flanks around Bakhmut atm. Don't know which is true, but one should probably treat any information from Wagner with a mountain of salt.

UK now supplying long range Storm Shadow missiles. The ante is being upped.

Russia has promised an "adequate response". They can't even be bothered with proper threats anymore.

I really can’t wait for this counter offensive. I hope it’s as epic as it should be, 2 weeks of “shock and awe” and clear out these trespassers once and for all.

Has anyone told them they've been using their long range missiles for 14 months and they are running short of them?

Also in related news, Ukraine are claiming they shot down a Khinzal hypersonic missile with the Patriot System, which if true is both the first time anyone has achieved that and secondly makes Putin's boast that his new Wunderwaffe missiles can't be shot down seem a lot like bollocks

I saw a picture of the supposed Khinzal that was shot down. A huge hole in the nose. Which is either incredibly lucky or it was tracked with ease and bopped on the nose whilst going.

It may well be propaganda, I'm not sure there is any way of currently verifying the claim

Only a few weeks ago they were doing joint military exercises with Russia and chyna. No surprise they are sending Russia weapons.
