Popular Post A'Villan
I'm beginning to appreciate the difficulty of this league. Being an Australian based supporter, I've never really been exposed to knowing anything about England's second division. For automatic promotion, we're going to have to be relentless and composed. Beat the teams below and around us, over a period significantly longer than required in the top division. Fortunately I think we've got that in us, and wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Cardiff and Wolves get severe payback for the way our first fixtures panned out. A playoff position would be better than missing it, but will be filled by teams who can beat us on their day, so I'd obviously rather us get the results for automatic promotion. Imagine if the Premier League title was decided by playoffs? I doubt Guardiola's City would be as comfortable in victory as they have been by being able to aquire a points tally over a season. My point being that every game during the home and away is so important in collecting points on the board if we want promotion, whereas in the Premier League, I could stomach a loss or missed opportunity a little easier as long as I could enjoy the quality of football. In the Championship I'm rooting for every inch gained on our opponent in the points tally department. It's not a huge difference ultimately, but from my experience of this season it is more heavily contested by more teams and the room for error finer.
Demitri_C
I most definitely dont want play offs for starters we always seen to bottle it in cup finals and I just think they will struggle under the pressure. i think we need to be targeting 2nd Edited February 2, 2018 by Demitri_C
Alexbass08
Anyone else looking at April thinking that could be a very difficult month? I'm not overly concerned with Norwich or Ipswich but Cardiff down to Derby looks tough, looks like if we we're going to falter it'll be then. If we don't get the results we need from those games then we don't deserve to go up automatically.

Hopefully be then Leeds might be midtable and not close to play offs so wont take it as seriously. the Cardiff game is huge 4 at Home and 2 away it will be in our own hands Edited February 2, 2018 by Demitri_C

OutByEaster? Posted February 2, 2018 Moderator Share Posted February 2, 2018 There's a long, long way to go in this season still. I think priority number one is to secure a playoff spot - we're by no means guaranteed one of those at this point. Of course I want to push on and go for one of the top two spots, but first lets get a good sized gap between us and seventh.

And I'm sure you agree that the best way to do that is by aiming for automatic promotion. To be honest I hadn't even looked at 7th for over a month. Surprised it's a 7 point gap.

I'd much prefer villa to go up the boring way if that's what it is. Ask sheffield wednesday how they feel about the excitement of the playoffs. OutByEaster? Posted February 2, 2018 Moderator Share Posted February 2, 2018 I'm not counting any chickens yet. I'm hopeful we can finish second. I don't think we can discount finishing seventh; there's a long way to go. In six or seven games time when we start to get into the last ten games of the season, we'll have a clearer idea of where we are. The Championship is strange and there are still thirteen teams who will think they've got a chance of going up. We've got a great chance, but it's a bit early to start thinking about exactly how things will finish. I'd love to finish second, hopefully in a month or two's time we'll be in a position where it's a real possibility.
omariqy
Bristol City look pretty poor here. No doubt they will go on and win it.
The Fun Factory
I still think it could go down to squad depth and we probably have one of the best squads in the division. We have got Lansbury and O'Hare who can't even make the bench at the moment.
