If it works out then Conor is more valuable to us (and he is already valuable) as he can now cover another position. There is a school of thought that all open play positions are "out of position" for Conor, and he is always just being shoe horned in as a dead ball specialist. Conor is a goal threat in open play, though, and that usually comes from the edge of the D. He's also pretty good at knocking the ball about from the centre circle, and making late runs into the box. Will playing full back let him showcase any of that? Probably not. I also think the positional responsibilities at full back are trickier than most people assume. Offside traps, set piece defending, back post covering, defending 2 on 1s, counter attacks off corners, etc. - I doubt Conor is particularly comfortable with any of this. Anyway, good luck to him. useless Posted September 10, 2019 Share Posted September 10, 2019 He won't be playing left-back for us, Targett, Taylor and Hause will all be ahead of him for that position, probably even Guilbert as well if it came to it. Unreal engine, good footballing brain, solid defensively, and loads of experience playing as a winger. McGinn would be a good full back for similar reasons.
