re: Yaya Toure

I saw an article about him in Jan posted in one of these shit Villa Facebook groups run by a person called something like Julie avfc Jones, with a poppy and a st.george's cross in her picture.

I commented that it was blatantly shit nonsense (it was an article on one of those sites with more ads than sentences in the article) and I got told I was shit and was banned.

So there we go.

It would be hilarious if it was THE Julie who was on here!

I made up the name. I can't remember exactly. But the point is they usually have 'AVFC' or 'SOTC' as their middle name on Facebook.

Makes me glad I'm not on Facebook.

Im looking forward to Bruce's signings in Jan. Seems he's going to be backed substantially,  maybe, just maybe we might be able to attract some decent players. If we keep our form up and with an actual manager in place, we should be a more appealing destination.

Agree with you, my only fear is us being stuck with top players at "this level" if we do too much. Would rather us sign "wonderkids" who will take this experience and can step it up to the next level if/when we get to the Prem or players which are already good enough for the Prem. Otherwise would prefer loan business.

Yeah to be fair that is a concern, our primary aim is to get promoted but we need to consider whether players coming in would be any use if we do go up. Loans from the prem could be the way to go for now, assuming the right kind of signings are available.

He does tend to sign players he's previously worked with a fair bit. Don't really want to see el mohammedy and meyler wind up here.

Think both could do a job for us this year. But, we could probably go better with our financial backing. getting the right central midfielders in could be the difference between upper mid-table and a play off finish

I think financial constraints/status of the clubs he has been at may also have been a factor in him taking the easier, tried and tested approach also.

Good point. With the shackles off, I wonder if he may be a bit more ambitious.

This signing would be a gamble, but a cheap one.

Rasmus Elm, central midfielder currently at Kalmar FF in the Swedish Allsvenskan, but will be available on a free as his contract is up.

He's had a horrid time with some kind of stomach illness but is back now and way too good to play in Sweden. Been really impressive during the second half of the season.

Before he got sick he played for CSKA Moscow and was named best midfielder in the Russian league back in 2014.

Very intelligent player, great range of passing. Set piece specialist, penalties, free kicks and corners. Even managed to score a couple goals directly from corners.

Still "only" 28 y.o and getting better with every game he plays, will be back in the national side as soon as he want's to.

Could be a brilliant signing. The playmaker we badly miss.

Has a face like Edward James Olmos...

Edit: the youtube video. not a highlight reel with goals and assists, but rather a random game against Anderlecht that shows what kind of player he is.

I'm happy for Bruce to sign the players that he wants to sign and that he backs to get us into the top 6.

I appreciate the point that you are making but I would prefer to be stuck with top players at this level following promotion rather than being stuck at this level for another season due to having not done quite enough. I would like us to look at bringing in a couple of "wonderkids" as well and we really do need to try to use the loan market to provide us with some more options/cover for the second half of the season.
