So is it fair to say he has the best win ratio of a villa manager in years when he's playing a load of rubbish teams week in week out? As people have mentioned numerous times in this thread. The reason he spent most of his career at decent championship sides is because he can't cut it in the top league. Hence the odd promotion every 5 years or so. Even with the best most expensive squad he only managed 4th place. He's spent most of his career as a manager in this division so he's had more attempts by far compared to the other managers down here so of course he's going to have a better promotion record but that doesn't mean he's a better manager than them. The managers who do well down here then become Premier league managers eg Dyche, Howe, Pulis, Allerdyce, Moyes etc so he's obviously going to have more promotions than them. So in my eyes, and those than can think for themselves realise 4 promotions doesn't sound half as impressive when you analyse it properly so is somewhat a "twisted stat" 5 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He'll certainly 'batten down the hatches' again, and it's reasonable to assume results will be better for a while. Make no mistake, it won't last though, not while we are solely relying on the players individual skill to win games, as opposed to having an actual gameplan. Not right now I'd agree. Knives are drawn though and a couple of bad results will seal his fate imo. Needs a response against Blackburn and 3 wins would do very nicely before the Bristol City match. Just look at Mick McCarthy, they had him on there covering an Ipswich game ffs.
