Top 6 at the half way point of the season in my view is realistic chance of going up.

Like being 4th in the premier league at this stage, you’d probably say that side has a realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Hmmm....there are maybe 11 teams outside the top 2 who at present have a chance at the 4 places available.....so we have a lot more competition than anyone going for 4th in the Premier League.

We have to beat 7 other sides to one of those places, then beat 2 of  the 3 others that make it.

It certainly counts as “ a chance” but realistic ? Depends on how you define it. Realistic as in possible yes, realistic as in likely, no, not statistically.

Would anyone be interested in Paul Clement?

I would because I think he'd get this good team playing some football.

His problem is trying to play beyond his means in the Prem, and at Derby to an extent. Here, we should be top 2.

Swansea fans and players weren't totally against him I don't think.

Villa were once 4th in the Premier League at this stage of the season. How did our Champions League campaign go again?

This is Villa mate - it does not work that way and certainly not with the manager we have.

I’ve had enough of Bruce now. I’ve never seen such an uninspiring Villa team. We don’t even attempt to play football and we’re playing against teams which have spent a fraction of what we have since we got relegated. I find it difficult to work out what we’re even trying to do in most matches - is there any kind of game plan?

The atmosphere at Villa Park is as bad as it’s been and it’s no surprise when we’re watching a team that can’t string more than about 5 passes together and at least 3 of those passes would have to be backwards too.

Can we get back to playing football because whatever it is we’re playing now it’s turgid to watch?

Jedinak and Whelan in the same team and supporters hope for decent football? I just wonder in seasons to come when fans recall that team tonight will they laugh or cry?

I see where you are coming from here Genie..

I do remember the time we flirted around the top 4 for a good while..

Sadly we eventually fell away and never really recovered...

And now we are in the same kind of position yet again albiet on a smaller scale but we are just as many points away from 16th as we are 3rd.

Looks like the best we're hoping for is 6th or better if we're lucky.

F**k this!

Genie does have a point, though. The team finishing in 4th place in the PL won't get champions league, but  might qualify through play-offs. The team finishing in 6th place in the championship might get promoted through play-offs.

(But Aston Villa with Steve Bruce at the helm probably won't)

He doesn't at all.

When you finish 4th you play a fairly average european team to try and qualify.

Finishing in the top 6 means you play 2 more top 6 teams from the same league.

Nothing similar at all.

Bruce would have been sacked 40 something games ago

C*** should have never been appointed.

Tried to give him the benefit of the doubt when he arrived, but that went after October this year and he has done nothing really since then to show otherwise.

While his chums above are also happy to put up with this shit then he will be going nowhere until it is financially and mathmatically impossible to go up this season.

Do NOT give this clown one penny to spend in Jan.

Freebies or Loans only as he has already pissed up 35m in the air on absolute shite!

He is walking us into Championship mediocrity and we are supposed to back him because if we don't we are hysterical. The reality is....It is a last pay day for him. The Wyness backing has given him a free role for a while to sit back and enjoy the ride. We are better than this. We really are. Don't throw money at managers and players who are after their big move. Build this club from the bottom because we actually have the potential of a bright future. I would happily back Bruce if I saw a vision for the future and a style of play that is implemented through the ranks. This is shotgun management that won't withstand longevity. We are... once again going to be overloaded with money movers. Build from the youth and lets go from there. For a starter....in a press conference call one of our best U23 talents by the right name just to show you know what you're on about.

...Bruce is an ar$ehole.

I don't think this is true, I don't want him as our maanger for sure. Personally I have nothing against him, he seems like a decent bloke.

That counts for nought though when rating him as a manager.

Today was another inept performance, and I accept that the players take the blame too but that his job to sort it out. It his squad and they are all failing each other.

Sack a squad of players?

Or sack a manager?

I have been happy to give this season to him but not any more. I believe there has to be a manager that can get us up this season.

It ain't going to be Bruce.

Were once top at Xmas but didn’t finish even in the top 5 - villa usually screw things up , personally I’d change it now as I think by next week we will not be in the top 8 - boro have shown balls on sacking monk , wyness and round will continue to pull the blinkers over xia until he finally sees them for what they are .

It’s Christmas so if we’re lucky Boro might fancy Championship promotion specialist Steve Bruce as their next manager.

Intersting to see what’s gone on there as monk had no idea after the win and to sack him just before Xmas after an away win seems odd timing - maybe they have lined up clement or bilic although it seems pulis is 3/10 on

As for us I  have no faith in wyness or round making a decision - would probably end up with mick  McCarthy or some other footballing relic .
