It didn't work well enough for him to meet his objectives, we spent more money than any other team in the division in an attempt to guarantee promotion, the tactic failed because he strenghthed in areas we didn't need to.

I'm not advocating changing him for the sake of it , we need a bright forward thinking manager who has a proven record of getting the most out of a group of players, he may come from a lower division or another country but with the right scouting network we should have these types of managers in our sites.

On the subject of management selection I would like to have a look at the due diligence took out on Bruce , because as far as I'm concerned we got what most people expected, well short of the return you would have expected with the squad we had .

I'm hoping Xia is finding the right manager and keeping his options open should one not be available. If hes going into next season with Bruce and a group of players Bruce doesn't rate then the writing is on the wall for at least another season . UTV

No we didn't why do people keep saying this. We spent big under di matteo. Under bruce he spent above average in janaury and then spent low on transfer fees last summer and Jan window. He was just giving loans and wages to play with and I feel it utilised that well for the promotion plan but we tell short just.

It really does depend who xia wants. I can't see many better than bruce that ate attainable to be honest. All these fancy international coaches with zero championship experience is a gamble

"Don't throw the baby out with the bath water" is the most poignant quote imo .....for our situation.

They question his coaching, but Warnock is no Pepe Guardiola...lets get some perspective.

I just think in terms issues many have been dealt with, he has much less fires to put out.....yes there is still some...and he will have to work hard, to get the shape right

I think he will learn alot from last season and get it right this time, meaning a better balanced team..... despite having no money.

If you study Cardiff, they won 3 more games than us, with exactly the same goal difference.......and I wonder which ones they were for us?....and stupid errors cost us.

That, as they say, is the question.

Apart from a view stalwarts on either side of the debate, it’s generally the case that most can see merit in both keeping him and changing. It really is that fine a division.

So I suppose the easy answer is it doesn’t matter either way !

I guess the only thing is that we don't have a choice about whether we want to scrap the good things and start again - some of those good things are getting scrapped anyway. Next season is a new job. I've no problem with Bruce taking that job on, he's very capable - but I am surprised he wants to take it on, it's not where his experience lies - he's become a single hit promotion specialist and that's not the job; the job is club builder.

But he also failed twice in his objectives - first season play offs - this season should have secured automatic promotion - what has he shown to suggest that he can deliver promotion next season under more challenging conditions ? Imo

That team has already lost 3 of its best players with more to follow ,  we have to start anew from here with a new strategy and .no cash to spend

were that team still together and we weren’t financially screwed I’d agree with you to an extent but it’s now time to rethink things and go a new route .

I agree a new change of manager to take on this new route would be refreshing.

Hopefully the new chap will utilise what we have left along with bringing in our own youth waiting in the wings.

Flog the deadwood combined with a bit of fresh thinking from a new manager  and we may just suprise ourselves this season.

Thanks for your efforts Mr Bruce and it's a a shame you never quite pulled it off for us. :thumb:

He’ll be looking forward to being back, he’ll dust himself down, like everyone at Villa has to and despite all the negativity at the moment regarding FFP, players being sold etc etc...... whatever lies ahead he’ll be doing his utmost to get Villa back to where they should be.

So at the least he not been told he being sacked yet ...

You would certainly expect Alex Bruce to be as reliable as it gets .

Will the last man out please turn off the lights - if he’s happy to stay  I fear dark dark times ahead for all :(

Doesn't sound like he's going anywhere.

If there's any silver lining in that it may be that he's able to convince Jack to stay for another season as I think Jack respects him.

It not about jack wanting to leave though is it - it’s about us raising money to abide by ffp regulations .

‘It’s not as if jack has asked to leave and your hoping Bruce can persuade him to stay - that’s not the situation at all .

‘What we don’t want is Bruce to do what he did at hull and start pre season then decide he wants out after all and walk in july . Him leaving in July really screwed them up .
