Would seem the North stand is going to have to fall down before it gets replaced

Would've already happened if Tonev was still here

Villa Park development plans per the Heck and Gabby interview:

  • No plans to leave Villa Park
  • Promises to not touch the Holte End too much: will install rail seating and 'more seats' but 'not going to change the banners'
  • Work around the rest of the stadium over the next two summers to add seats, will install LEDs everywhere but Holte End
  • 'Reimagine our premium seating'
  • Superstore, Concert Venue and all round 'Entertainment Zone' (aim to have fans stick around before and after games)
    • Welcoming the Villa players was a success, will be more of that going forward including club legends etc.
  • Working on the train situation, already implemented the shuttle buses

That's a consistent message,  the same one he's been giving since he 'paused' the North Stand. Most of this is already underway too which is good news - I'm not sure what the LED's bit is, but the project to add seats in hospitality is already underway, the superstore is planned for the summer with the existing store also taking the space next to it that's currently a ticket office and some more floorspace in that old office building, the concert venue(s) will be the big summer events on the pitch but also perhaps smaller events in the Warehouse which is potentially a good medium sized venue in a city that doesn't have many of those and you can see some efforts to get people there early already - helpfully the Warehouse encourages some to hang around, as will the conversion to more hospitality (whether we like it or not).

I think we've put together a board that is more than capable of looking at more than that and has a lot of specialists, but I think the big plan might be one for five or ten years from now.

A bag full of 70s casers would have seen to it.

We sold 33,000 season tickets for this season from what I can find on the internet. Which is about 78.5% if total capacity.

That's definitely incorrect - we're not much over 25,000 - I've got the exact figure somewhere but frustratingly can't find it.

All a bit uninspiring really. But at least we stay at Villa Park.

Don't see the point of bringing those people on to the board for something they might do in 5 years.

Sounds like we'll be getting the most out of what we have, and if they make the warehouse a decent venue before/ after games then it will go a long way to helping us handle extra capacity in the long term

It depends how much extra revenue you want.  The stuff you mention is basics that should have been done decades ago and needs to be done ASAP. Maybe that adds a few million to revenue.    But the big money comes from increasing the size of the stadium - 8000 extra seats of which 4000 are premium/corporate/hospitality seats (including converting existing seats elsewhere) adds many more millions every year. Much more than the tinkering with food and drink which should be done irrespectively of new stands or not.

Also the four new infrastructure directors haven't joined just to create a new bar for selling more food and drink.  They are here to do big things.

I think big extends well beyond just the stadium and already associated buildings too.  If you look at what NS has built in Egypt and some of the plans for regeneration around the stadia in the US - I think there is money to be made by redeveloping / regenerating the surrounding area.  How much of that becomes "profit" for NSWE and how much will be done by VSports / Villa remains to be seen - but it could allow for significant non-football revenue year round and not just on match days.  If BCC is broke then having a big private enterprise taking on redevelopment projects would likely have great political appeal.  Maybe that's the kind of scale of project that attracts partners like Comcast, etc (and might explain why NSWE would be keen on having easy access to more capital funding).

If the longer term view is regeneration of the whole area a la Philly and Milwaukee with all that brings then makes sense to bring them on board. Get revenue generation maximised and ensure grand plans of Villa Park expansion can happen, maybe with a building footprint adjacent to current stadium. 🤞

I think there's something in that - it's not the inspiring message you get from a nighttime render of a massive new facility - and maybe that's why it's a message that's been whispered out, snuck through and couched in airy-fairy language - but it is still change that will make a big difference, especially in the hospitality areas.

The club have consistently, on every possible channel, through every possible means available to them, since the day that Nassif and Wes arrived, said that we won't be moving from Villa Park - I'm always amazed that each time they repeat it people seem surprised. If in future we have new stands or a new stadium, I think it'll be between the railway and the park, and personally, I like that very much.

I don't necessarily think 5 (or even 10) years is a massively long period of time for the sort of project people are envisaging - Spurs planned theirs in 2007, announced it in 2008 and it opened in 2019. Perhaps that's the kind off timeline we're thinking about - perhaps they're just people the owners trust and work with who coincidentally have backgrounds in that kind of project, I have no idea - but more smart people with valuable links and loads of money can't be a bad thing.

Unfortunately the club can't take 2 seasons without the stand especially as all the new fan areas and such will be located behind it.

Ok thanks, internet was my source and had us at 33,000 and 30,000 on the two places that had figures.

Not according to Heck in the Gabby interview released today.  Heck said it wouldn’t happen in his life time.

I got the impression Heck was speaking from a personal pov.

I don't think a larger re-development or a new stadium will be Heck's responsibility.

We have also added board members with experience of large construction projects.

I do get that, but at some point they are going to have to bite the bullet and do it. There will never be a perfect time, there will always be a reason to delay it.

I fear we will end up with dilapidated stadium before an owner excepts something must be done

The interview was scripted and topics chosen for a reason. Nothing said there was his personal opinion.

Wes and  Sawiris said already we not moving anywhere, Heck confirmed again,  yet some people still don't want to believe.

So after all that rather underwhelming news though is what basically Heck has hinted at ever since he has arrived at the club. All the talk of a new stadium  was just, well, talk.

It looks like just a deep clean with new posh seats and a club shop.

Usually, when you add premium seating it usually takes up more space than standard seating. So how will capacity increase by a couple of thousand? Or has that now been abandoned?

And for the people in long seating season tickets in the centre of the dough ellis and trinity are they expected to be cleared off elsewhere in a spot of sports gentrification?

The North Stand current plans are dead in the water if he is not happening in the next two years then it won't be ready for the euros and the planning permission will run out. So at best it will be a 2030's project costing more money.

I have no idea why the 'future vision of villa park' stuff is still on the avfc website.

Club say “No, no, no no, no, no, no, not going to happen, not on clubs agenda, not in my life time, we aren’t moving from Villa Park, no, no, no, no”

Some Villa fans “I think it may happen”

Yeah there's no way a controlled and scripted video like that goes out and then we go off and build a new stadium, even down to when gabby starts naming big newer stadiums like spurs followed by villa park has something different and special about it

That's a very well chosen specific line from him let alone what heck goes on to say

Imagine something like this for our champions league and evening prem games …

From the interview I’d expect LED ribbon banners be installed on all available space highlighted below increasing advertisement space. Maybe they’ll follow Madrid with a type of 360 halo board.

I've held my season ticket, on the halfway line of the Upper Doug Ellis for 15 years (of mostly s*** football) and Heck's willingness to tell every media outlet going about his plans for lots of extra premium seating while at the same time delaying the announcement of details to those actually affected is putting a real downer on the end of the season for me and severely souring my attitude towards the Club.

So you’re telling me that after the club categorically denied we were moving from Villa Park, they’re actually not moving from Villa Park?

I don’t believe it
