They are the ones who will look bad. He can only be in the wrong if they haven't said they are staying. Even then he can say that he did everything he could to keep them. Haters gonna hate whatever he does. I'd rather he talks than stays silent. I don't have a problem with him talking and feel it to be a rather refreshing change from the previous regime, but it is inevitable he would lose credibility with elements of the fanbase despite his best intentions - you only have to look at this forum to see that. I'm not sure whether pointing a finger and shouting 'but.. they lied!' would absolve him either, many reasonable fans would like to value the word of the owner and the promises they make without being written off as 'haters' - I imagine both parties wouldn't come out of the situation well. Anyhow, let's hope he's right.
Popular Post VillaChris
This is very similar to the fawning over Krulak. I know the Doctor means well but eventually it will occur that he will promise something and the opposite will happen. And then the witch hunt will begin...

You can only fawn over someone if you actually interact with them. I personally am enjoying the information he is providing, and I hope he continues to do so. It is refreshing, rather than the source-less speculation that is mostly what we have to feed on here on VT. Much as I enjoy VT, it is good to get the information straight from the horse's mouth.

Charles Krulak was given a job to do by Randy - appease and communicate with the fans. It was as far as Randy ever developed a communications strategy. Krulak is also about 80 years old. Twitter/Weibo is natural to Tony, he is late thirties and knows how to use social media. Tony is also the owner of the club and the guy who will have final say on everything AND he is the guy on Twitter. Not the same at all.

He's already been tripped up by his own naivety by someone purposely and blatantly on the wind up. If one of Amavi or Ayew leave (or both) then I can imagine his Twitter feed being swamped with moaning supporters who say they've been lied to. They haven't; it's just that shit happens in football, but that's usually not reason enough for the average fan when they've been told certain things. He needs to realise these are big statements; and they're almost not worth saying in the first place due to the fallout they can bring. I liked this post, and agree with all of it with the possible exception of 'they haven't been lied to'. I think they have in this particular scenario, which is all the more reason to be parsimonious when it comes to promising things that he can't definitely deliver. One major difference is that General was a mouthpiece, the Doctor is the actual owner, we have more reason to believe what he says even if it turns out to be tosh. Obviously a part of his huge emphasis on trying to communicate is because so many Villa fans used to go into a huge moan about Lerner not talking at all, which at the time, as an owner, I had no problem with. Popular Post terrytini
Well I know people get shot at for this but ....if anyone is getting pleasure etc out of his communications then I am genuinely pleased for them ,God knows its a miserable enough world sometimes, especially at our Club. So fine. But for me, whilst I wish him well and am hoping for the best, his talk so far isn't - as far as I can tell - much more than just that. Although I like the players we have bought it is just 3, and although I like who has gone, ditto. And a transformation of the playing squad is Priority 1, 2, 3, and 4. (And I don't need someone telling me these things take time, wait and see etc , I know all that, I am speaking as we are today). I prefer the old mottos of "actions speak louder than words" and "put your money where your mouth is " - crude though they undoubtedly are ! I don't have too much problem giving him enough time to show he will significantly invest, but until he actually does, I cant honestly say I want/need to hear from him. In addition, despite him being (a) not Krulak, (b) younger, (c) a self made whateveraire, and all the rest, I don't see his current method of communicating as a good thing. Apart from the content (which I personally don't rate, see above - money talks etc) I can't think of a single Club where a vocal owner in this style has worked in the long run. People were - despite what many say now - very happy with Krulak until he wouldn't answer specifics (sensible) and then when things went wrong on the playing side (almost inevitable). Yes there is a better way than Lerners silences, but for me it would be through organised meaningful press conferences, And more usually from the Chief Executive than the owner - has he been confirmed yet BTW ? - where in addition to his statements there are people there to ask follow up questions. Which was the whole problem with Lerner, he was never properly questioned. Of course Tony may do those also, or revolutionise in a positive and long lasting way the art of fan communication, but I fear not. Finally this note of pessimism (sorry again) but had Lerner stayed and the transfers been what we have had under Tony, and then the Club begun to suggest a two year project may be required to get back up, would people who are happy enough now - and not all are - be the same ? If not,. what is the difference ? Edited July 23, 2016 by terrytini

If not,. what is the difference ? I think to be simplistic, the Xia regime can say "it may take two seasons to put this right" and not have people complaining purely because this isn't a mess of his own making. If Randy had stayed and said all this, I think fans would be less understanding of the proposed schedule as the state of the club is largely down to him, people would say he owed us a speedier return to make amends. We are now Xia's problem, that he has decided to take on. With that change I think brings a certain amount of leniency with some (for an as of yet unspecified amount of time). Like a lot of supporters, I want to see a few more players in, and a fair few existing players out. But I'm holding off from getting too worried while the transfer window is still open. Elsewhere on this site a fellow VTer spoke of wanting us to buy someone for £10m which would show a statement of intent. I get where this is coming from, it feels like we're waiting for that "marquee signing", it seems like if that occurred a lot of people would feel easier about things. As for the twitter account, I think the rather fresh approach by Xia in engaging with the fans in stark contrast with Lerner helps bring further leniency and let's face it, a novelty value to it. How long that will last remains to be seen. In my opinion, while I would like there to be some sort of considered process for the interaction with fans, it's (currently) far more preferable than the previous regime who wouldn't return our calls.
