Why Moyes? Is it some last straw grasping to prove to ourselves we are still a big club because we can attract a manager who managed Everton and then took the Manure job as Fergies pick?

Or is it genuinely because he has proven he can turn around the fortunes of a desperately failing used to be big club?

Because to be honest I think ,  as uncomfortable it may be for people to admit this,  the first statement above if playing a huge part.  Lets face it Fergie does not have a good track record in suggesting managers dose he?  I really think people want him not for the right reasons but because of what it is a link to.  For me ,  and I have nothing against him if he joins I hope he turns us around I really do,  but he would not be my first choice.  It papers over the cracks a bit (and I dont think that I am explaining myself well but hey ho)

I think that's quite a patronising post.

I can only speak for myself, but the first bit has literally nothing to do with it.

Most people who want Moyes couldn't give a shit that he managed United. I think it's fair enough that he's not your first choice but I don't think it's fair to claim that the people who want him don't want him for the "right" reasons, becuase that blatantly isn't the case for most people.

Just out of curiosity, who would be your first choice?

People want Moyes because he's shown ability in England to succeed over long periods, often under constraint (his time at Everton does have some propaganda, he did spend decent money at times).

It's the same reason people have raised other names that don't have the 'weight' of Moyes name, they're naming they take to have good records. Don't think his background has much, if anything to do with it. His name's actually been dragged through the mud a bit with his last 2 jobs which dampens the argument is a choice of vanity IMO.

Well Pat Murphy's reporting Moyes wants the job but hasn't been contacted yet. Not sure how much of that, if not all of it, is guess work, but he surely has to be in the top 2 choices of this board.

Ill be honest. Its Moyes for me, because Freguson reccomended him>As far as I am concerned Fergy is the best manager around. He took Aberdeen to europe in Scotland and to the title.I dont think Guardiola/Moreno/ etc could do that.On top of that, how many trophies did Fergy win at ManUre ?

If he does not know football then no one does.

I'm confident that once their exams are out of the way our Management Recruitment Specialists currently studying at Loughborough Tech will be all over which potential manager could do the best job for us. Just sit tight folks, the decision will be in safe competent hands.

Our board should do whatever it takes to get Moyes and then back him 100%. His record at Everton makes him the stand out candidate.  IF we got him there is no doubt in my mind  we would be playing premier league again within a year or two.

I was actually posing the question as to why people wanted Moyes and expressin my opinion that I'm not sure he is the right person for where we are as a club now.  Did he have to totally rebuild a failing and shambolic Everton? I'll ignore largely what he did at Manure as it was a poisoned chalice but I would just add the ridicule he received on this site and others because of that.  At the time it seemed a strange appointment and not the stature of manager for arguably one of the top three biggest clubs in Europs (then not now).  So what is it about Moyes for us now that prove he can rebuild a failing club on what will be limited resources?

You have no idea how many players he told Sherwood to look at

You have no idea how much involvement he had in the signing of the players we signed

For all you know he may have flagged to Sherwood they were risky signings because of x, y and z....

The fact is, all you know is that he's a scout and he would have provided a list of players to Sherwood. What about if Kante was on that list but they chose not to go for him? Does that make him bad at his job?

And, for what it's worth, the players we signed in the summer have actually been our better players this season. It's the old players who have been absolutely shocking.

Not sure I agree. Lescott and Richards have played a huge part in our downfall.

And while other summer signings have been slightly better than existing players, they've still not been good enough for premier league survival.  .

he also recommended Alex McLeish. would you take him at Villa?

He also thinks Van Gaal should stay on at United

Thanks.  Your last line is really what I was getting at and it sums up my point,  that I think it's a vanity choice.  I still do if im being honest

I want Moyes because it would hopefully be a statement of intent. I don't know who would be my ideal choice if budgets, league etc were not factors. However I am damn sure I would feel less hopeful if we employ Pearson, Bruce, McCarthy or similar.

Who would your first choice be?

Before he took over Everton were a bottom half club for any seasons.

Positions wise he turned them round after a season or two in charge
