It really could go either way - could be completely underwhelming or we could get a flurry of very good players in and then things look very different. I think you have to balance the lack of movement both in and out though with the fact that the new manager was only installed 7 weeks ago and the fact he had to assess the squad he inherited which only returned to training 4 weeks ago. It seems to me that he decided at least a week ago who he wants out and what areas need strengthening. That is shown by Gil moving on and the speculation around 3 or 4 others which seems pretty concrete. I think the club be it Di Matteo, Wyness, Xia have decided that players need to leave before anymore come in which has held up anymore incoming. I have to say I can understand this but find it really frustrating. The hope was that we could hit the ground running from the first game but that seems highly unlikely given what I have seen in pre season. Not a surprise though given the lack of changes. This next week is now crucial. It will arguably shape the whole season. A couple of incoming one of which will need be a proven goal scorer and it could be the springboard to us making a good start to the season, get some confidence running through the club and some real positivity in the stands. If it goes the other way and we make a slow start then the hangover from last season could well continue. Patience was always going to be needed over the summer and I think we may well have to be patient for much of next season. However I think it is now time we saw a lot more action in terms of player movement. In fact it is crucial we do as a fresh new look above the playing staff, whilst extremely welcome, will not be enough on its own to see us challenge for promotion. 7 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

bobzy Posted July 26, 2016 Share Posted July 26, 2016 I think, as with most things on VT, the majority of fans fall in line with your post entirely, Mark. Cautious optimism, maybe. Certainly we want to see more signings. Equally, though, perhaps we'll see our youth players used in a more frontline role this season?
