There’s talk the BoE might put interest rates up again TODAY to offset the run on the currency caused by the mini-budget on Friday.

Impossible. Changing interest rates are an apolitical force, completely detached from Government policy decisions.

The Tories treat their leaders like Chelsea treat their managers.

She got in into power on the immediate cutting of taxes. Now it has (as predicted) tanked the economy the people who voted for her are pointing the finger.

Maybe that other guy with his sensible approach to paying down the debt before giving out free money to people who don’t need it was right?

Sunak would have been the smart choice but The Tory members just saw him as a backstabber.

You know it's bad when even the Daily Mail are calling it a "schizophrenic" budget. If they're saying that think how bad it really is.

It was only days ago they led with the front page headline of ‘finally, a proper Tory budget’ or something to that effect, guess a couple of days can be a long time these days.

She might last a shorter amount of time than it took to appoint her.

Very possible. Where is she today btw? Has she or Kwarteng spoken about the chaos they created?

Edit: As if by magic BBC just updated

Quote

Let's head back to London now, where the chancellor has refused to answer questions about the pound touching an all-time low following his mini-budget.

Approached by a BBC journalist, while walking between government buildings, Kwasi Kwarteng is asked: "Chancellor, what are you doing to do about the turmoil in the markets this morning, sir?"

Refusing to answer, the Tory MP replies: "I'm not going to make any comment now."

The reporter continues, asking what conversations Kwarteng is having with the Bank of England. He also asks if the chancellor has anything to say about what's going on.

"Are you going to reverse your announcement that you made last Friday?" the reporter asks, referring to the mini-budget, to which Kwarteng says only: "I'm just going to my office now, thanks."

Well no, not really because she'll sit there whilst the whole process is gone through again

Clearly an exaggeration, taking the time from the start of the leadership election to her being appointed compared to between then and her potentially losing a vote of no confidence.

He doesn't seem like everything is going just as he planned.

What a mess. He could have smiled and said he had a plan and was working through it. All the right people are engaged. There will be an announcement forthcoming etc etc.

Instead he looked like a criminal scared to say anything in case it incriminated him further.
