Actually if he was that good he would sign the contract, knowing that he is good enough to get game time, score goals, and if a villa don't flourish he will eventually get picked up by a top flight club.

As it is Tim Sherwood, gave him a few meaningless minutes when he was 16, Remi Garde, RDM, and Steve Bruce , have sought to use him only fleetingly, he is available for a compensation fee of around £200k  ...and whose in for him ? well from the footballing powerhouse of Scotland ....Rangers.

Seems to me he perhaps doesn't have that much confidence in his own ability to cut it - and is taking a short term approach of taking the money and running.....

I understand that the Sturridge family and the Hepburn-Murphy family have links.

Is it any wonder that RHM is being advised the way he is......with the history surrounding DS's departure from us....Its hardly surprising RHM is at the point he is

If he thinks a move to Rangers rather than staying at Aston Villa is a good career move - good luck with that.

Well its a bit of that and ......Aston Villa are expected in his eyes to take all the gamble.

I suppose its winners and losers..... we took Gareth Barry from Hastings and David Platt from Crewe.....Coventry took Sturridge from us..... we took Dennis Mortimer from Coventry for a modest fee....

I don't think that an uncommitted player will be Bruce's type of player, nor Xia's.

I think its more to do with a bunch of family seeing themselves as top agents and are hell bent in getting a payoff for the player in order to massage their over inflated ego.

If he really wanted to go to Rangers he could have signed a pre-contract with them a week ago, he hasn't though.

The Villa offer is on the table, it seems like a case of holding out for better and Villa calling his or his agents bluff.

Personally I'm sick of the whole saga for someone who has done the square route of Bosko Balaban.

I think the criticism of Rushian Hepburn-Murphy in this thread is harsh to say the least. I find it hard to believe that he would leave this football club, he's been here since he was 9 years old! I have reason to think that he might have played or had a trial for West Bromwich Albion but I have no proof to this effect

I have met him personally at an u23 match, not only is he a brilliant footballer, he is also a very nice, funny guy as I have stated a few times on this site. He also comes across as being very humble. In my opinion, he has great natural ability in terms of finishing and first touch but I think he has the all round game too, that top players have  I know it is naive to say that as he is still only 18 years old, I shall enjoy watching him develop at Villa or elsewhere.

He's been offered the highest wages ever offered to an academy graduate. The offer has been on the table for weeks and he hasn't signed it. How can people be free of criticism for that? He either wants more money or is considering offers elsewhere, both ways fans aren't exactly going to be neutral about.

All this talk of commitment is a bit fuzzy to my mind. Footballers, no matter their age, are essentially freelancers. It's reasonable to expect they will negotiate hard to get the best wages deal. Then it's reasonable to expect they will do their best for the club for the length of their contract. Is there any indication that RHM, just because he is holding out on the former, wouldn't give us his full commitment the pitch once the contract is settled?

No but then I'm not really sure that is the issue or something people are suggesting.

No doubt his family are looking to retire sooner rather than later. Hence the standoff.

If I was him there is no chance I'd sign now. He's been hung out to dry by both Bruce and the chairman. He's a kids so don't see why the press had to be told why he wasn't in the squad. So what if he was trying to get as much money as he can. He can't be that good if we have decided to force his hand in this way.

I don't really get this thread at the moment, people seem to be making comments on what is happening which don't really relate to the reality of the situation.

This has been rumbling on for months now and seemingly the contract (best ever for a youth player) had been verbally agreed, Bruce is on record as saying the player had given a commitment to sign. What we don't know is if that was personally or through a representative, most likely the later.

Once that was given he was considered for selection and put on the bench and subsequently made an appearance.

Yet the contract remains unsigned, press ask Bruce and the contract situation and if the player will be considered for the Spurs game. Bruce says no and no, seemingly getting a little frustrated with the situation which I think is understandable, and says unless its signed he would rather give a place to a player committed to the club. 

Those are the facts as we have them.

Now it could be that the lad is holding out for more money or those advising him are doing so, it could be that he is looking for a better offer from elsewhere. We don't know, I know what I think. 

I just don't agree with criticism of Bruce in this situation, he has been very complimentary about him in the media on several occasions and sanctioned a very lucrative contract offer for a lad that has so far achieved absolutely nothing in the game. Its rumbled on for months and he is growing tired of it especially having been informed the deal was agreed only for that not to be honoured, he is then asked about it in the press, I think he is fully justified in what he said and the stance he has taken.

Besides which he is looking after the interests of the club, what if he plays him and he bags a couple of goals at Spurs? Is he going to sign the deal then or is he going to want to start negotiating again for more money? Say we give him an even better deal based on a couple of goals and he is another Delfounesso! Or is he suddenly going to attract attention from other clubs more tempting than Rangers which is personally something I think is a factor in all this.

Why should Bruce weaken the clubs position by playing the guy and why should he lie about why he isn't playing him? He hasn't been critical of the lad or those close to him (quite the opposite in fact) he simply said he was told he would sign, picked him and he hasn't signed.

Then we have the lad himself, people seem to be taking issue with the criticism of him saying things like and I paraphrase "I don't blame him for negotiating for more money'. Yet this is seemingly either unaware of/ignoring that a verbal agreement had already seemingly been reached. It has or had gone past the point of negotiating. 

I think the criticism of the lad is utter fan frustration, not just at him but at the game and players in general but particularly young players. Young players in general these days seem to have entirely the wrong priorities and desires in the game, they seem to only really be in it for the money. Sadly we've thrown fortunes at young players that simply didn't warrant it and people, myself included are a little tired of it.

This kid has achieved nothing in the game but has been made a huge offer to become a pro, this after the club have invested the best part of a decade in coaching (and paying him) to become the player he is. Where is the gratitude, where is the loyalty to the club, the desire to prove himself or repay the fair shown in him. He isn't being offered £50 a week here he is being offered a lot of money. 

But more than that, where is the desire to play? He knows he won't be considered without signing the deal but seemingly, for whatever reason, is okay with that. That alone makes me question if the offer should even be on the table any more. Sign the deal, get on the pitch and prove yourself. It's football, if you do the business you'll have an even better contract in a few months or else be snapped up by one of the big boys, if you don't you will still be on great money.

So I think some criticism of him is justified, I think the clubs position and conduct is justified and I think both have been reasonable and not gone too far. I also think the fans response is as much about the wider context of young players as it is him alone. 

We will see how this pans out I guess.
