Tea for me and the daughter tonight… chips, spicy fish goujons and deep fried squid. All whacked in the oven and served with beans. Might treat us to some bread and butter to go with it, if she’s lucky.

And they said fish with gravy was bad, but squid with beans? Off to the gastro pervs you go.

The lunch of champions 👌🏻

I always think chippy food tastes far better at lunch, rather than later on in the evening. Maybe its because I always seem to enjoy it more then.

First mixed grill for a year. Red lion west brom; as good as ever. 2 large grills, lamb biryani, masala chips, garlic naans and a chicken tikka masala for the ladies :

Stop showing off! :D

I haven't had a mixer in a couple of years now. WFH has disbanded the 'Mixed Grill Crew' from work. Used to a regular thing, but we're just never all together anymore. Last few have been at the Keg and Grill when we've been in the office together (2019 time)

Kind of know what you mean. It was bloody lovely and the red lion deffo know their grills but I did feel I was getting a smaller portion of meat (kw gif) for my money. That said, my memory probably played tricks with me.

Some places do take out but I agree with you; there's nothing better than a group of mates, a few beers, good craic and tasty grub. Hope you can rally the troops soon !

From another thread for @Follyfoot @Xann: Cockneys of Croydon

spacer.png

I got there a bit too early to mash liquor and the menu was quite restricted, no buns, no biscuits, no coffee, not even a cold cabinet with a Pepsi in there.

The only drink they did was ‘mug of tea’.

So I had a mug of tea, 80p but I only had a tenner so he moaned i was giving him a tenner for a 80p mug of tea so I pointed out he had no snacks and didn’t take cards.

So I got the mug of tea for free, and sat in his best window seat for 20 minutes waiting for the record shop to open.

Here’s the mug i got my tea in:

Our local, Harringtons, had this AND blue pop.

Not been for years.

I'd be crushed if the blue pop had gone.

A bit strange to give you that mug. Maybe they help their mate by advertising their concrete company with it.

I ate in there once, when I was living just north of Croydon, in Selhurst. I had the jellied eels and liquor mash as I'd never tried either and was curious about them.

Chicken big mac

Because its a crispier patty it's naturally drier and imo not as good, sure I've had it before at dubai Airport

The main thing was is 'kin hell McDonald's is cheaper in the UK, last month in Germany I paid £18 for a big tasty, mcrib and 9 nuggets, tonight in UK I paid £11 for chicken big mac, triple cheese burger, 9 nuggets and a large fries

Edit - makes it sound like I go to McDonald's a lot, I don't twice in a month but I'm sure it's 3 times in the last 2 years, tonight was a reminder why... Its just garbage ain't it? Completely unsatisfactory and I'm full of regret

I agree, the problem I have is that the kids ask for it all the time. If we have a takeaway treat we give them all the options available but they always go back to this. It just isn’t a satisfying meal. Expensive as well for a family of four when comparing it to say a chippy tea.

I think people think McDonald's is worse than it is because of the reputation.

For the price, you can't get a more consistent fulfilling product than a double cheeseburger.

The triple cheeseburger was good to be fair, 2 or 3 of them would be better than a meal

In general though I don't see what they do that is better than elsewhere anymore, BK do better quality burgers, KFC strips are better than their nuggets and in general their specials have become really uninspired and are heavily rotated

Apart from of course the mcrib which is still incredible
