World Cup 2022: Qatar

Reading the papers (I know!) it seems that White wasn't prepared for tactics meetings and wasn't aware of some of the opposition player strengths. White has himself said that he never watched football as a kid and doesn't watch it now. He's done well to become a professional player if that is true!

I do think 26 man squads are far too big. Nothing wrong with 22/23 as previous years.

23

2 players for each position + extra keeper as its specialist

That is a good point, Genie! With their massive salaries they should be able to afford that, maybe two at the front of the house and one or two at the back.

I'd go old school, 4-4-2.

Tbf If they are that worried they can easily pay for some security guards to secure the house 24/7 whilst they are away.

You would think the clubs would arrange this as they pay a lot of money for players so would need them 100 percent ready and secure

Or they could claim the cost back from the FA too.

I'm not sure I buy the idea that Southgate's tactical briefings are more complex than what White would be getting from Arteta at Arsenal.

Possibly he wasn't prepared for them enough by having the required 8 cups of coffee needed to not fall asleep.

He likes to think he is when in reality he will say "Mbappe is fast, if we run faster than him then we will win"

From little bits I've seen the clubs sort a lot of them rental houses* and then have car partnerships etc and give them cars so it can't be that much of a stretch to then also include security and alarms etc but then if sterling wants to buy himself a £10m house in the countryside that risk should become his

* don't know how that sits with FFP, say man City for example trying to keep their numbers down start offering de Bruyne £500k a week plus free use of the Cheshire mansion and the luxury land rover they happen to own... That must be going on

Apparently (reported by Daily Star and Daily Mail so you know…) Ben White left the England camp because of a bust up with Gareth’s assistant Steve Holland.

It's absolute bollocks, he's gone home instead of to the arsenal camp in Dubai, and the club out out a comment saying "we're all with you".

Added to that the bizarre claim he's not managed to mix well with the squad, when he's good mates with Phillips, and also has Saka and Ramsdale there.

Looks to be like baseless smears against someone with some private problems at home.

The internet rumour that has been doing the rounds was that someone was going to announce him as being gay.

The Daily Mail put a bullshit reason out there in an attempt to flush him out to correct the false rumour. Classic tabloid ‘journalism’.

Whether we like it or not, this is shaping up to be arguably the best ever World Cup..

Imagine if you were one of the ‘high horse’ folks proudly letting us know every few days that they haven’t watched a single minute of it.

Cutting off nose to spite face springs to mind.

i like the football. i still don't like where it's being held. still seeing empty seats, quiet grounds etc. argentina are the only ones that seem to have a top drawer support in qatar

the knockouts have been pure entertainment. but there was some utter dross in the group stage. wasn't there 3x 0-0s in a row? it's been good, no question. but best ever is a stretch

Over the years, this has been the go-to rumour for so many different people without any basis in fact. It's such an obvious rumour that anyone can just come up with it on Twitter and it spreads like wildfire.

He may or may not be gay (he has a wife I think) but I strongly doubt anyone putting this out knows either way.

Most likely he just has a sick relative or something, and they don't want to put the details into the public domain.

Tbf, I respect those people for demonstrating their values.

I have completely ignored my values to watch hours and hours of quality football.

It's been a thrilling World Cup, but it absolutely stinks that Qatar are hosting it.

Group stage will always produce a few duds. I agree about the atmosphere lacking somewhat. Mexico, Morocco and Argentina fans all in good voice and numbers. Others not great, including English if I'm honest. In older tournaments England fans had a repertoire and a band. Now it's a lot of guys with phones.

I might be caught up I'm the moment but there have been some unbelievable moments in this Cup.

where it is is probably a factor. there are no £20 a night hostels to kip at or cheap flights so the younger crowd aren't there in as many numbers. not saying it's a bad thing but the fact that there have been zero reports of crowd trouble indicates that there's a different clientele attending these games
