FIFA Corruption

sad day for football, he was a great leader of FIFA and people just dont realise it yet. Platini has done worst things for football in FFP yet people will be happy if he will be made FIFA President. If UEFA has their way they will have a monopoly on football again so the other continents cant develop the game just like before Havelange took over

why not? He brought the World Cup to Africa for the first time for example and that was one of his goals for taking office in 98 before even the Olympics have been to the continent. He also didnt kiss the arse of the establishment and put UEFA in their place on many occasions

Granted he made mistakes but what politician hasnt, If honest id prefer Blatter over FIFA than Dyke, Scudamore, John Delaney or Platini who are hopeless administators and care less about the fans than Blatter. Dont remember him suggesting 39th game for example

You bring UEFA into every argument, why on earth do you think we regard that horrible behemoth as some sort of sweet alternative in this?

He isnt but UEFA paint themselves as the angels here and for me are worse.

FFP is a cancer on the game for a start then I have seen some "dodgy" refereeing in big European games *cough* Barcelona vs Chelsea*cough*. Also the head of UEFA who is throwing the biggest tantrum in this actually voted for Qatar unlike Blatter

the fact football fans are arguing about politicians and money and not football just shows how bad the game has become

amid all the media rubbish what seems to be forgotten is he said he will resign in December2015-March 2016 so maybe nothing in the allegations

Zatman, if you want to talk about UEFA, please start a separate thread. Please don't use UEFA as a straw man, it's starting to look like PFE. Debate the matter at hand. Only you have made the claim that UEFA are any better than FIFA. Don't put words in other peoples' mouths.

Errr... so.... wtf?

Why on earth did he bother in the race to be elected if he was just going to quit a few days after?

Strikes me as being a power hungry thing.

Probably thought he could ride out the storm but decided it wasn't going away any time soon.

I actually agree that he has been good for the sport in parts. It's whether his ego, corruption or poor judgement has then taken the World Cup to places that it shouldn't have been. For all the good he has done in places like Africa and Asia he has stood by while his direct reports have skimmed off the top or just pocketed funds whether he knew or not.

He is the head of a beast and the organisation is corrupt, opaque and unorganised below him and he has to take responsibility for that, 17 years is enough time to change the system if you wanted to but he used it to his advantage. Unfortunately the organisation if given the option will appoint a stooge or another will win threw just like Blatter unless the reforms are fit for purpose.

Unfortunately the confederations who have ousted him are just as bad, not at any point do I want to see Platini at the top of FIFA. In actual fact the decision makes no difference to me other than World Cup location. Money has ruined the sport we all love and the organisations involved are just a symptom of the money that flows through the game unfortunately and that will not change as where there is money someone will be trying t get a bigger piece of the pie, they can only manage the situation better.

Or something else has just cropped up and he's been tipped off he's going to be arrested

He should be employed in Qatar, like all the other "Non-Qataries" who are forced to live dangerously while they work.

Maybe just before he draws his last breath he'll be confessing his corrupt activities and pray for forgiveness "for all the good" he's done

He may well end up there.  He's likely very well thought of in Qatar.  And they have no extradition treaty with the US...

"South Africa has denied paying a $10m bribe to secure the 2010 World Cup, in the wake of a US inquiry into corruption at world football body Fifa.

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula said the money in question was above board and intended to support football in the African diaspora in the Caribbean."

"The money went into a fund controlled by Mr Warner."

Above board. Sure.

Mr Blatter was back in his office at the Fifa headquarters in Zurich on Wednesday, the BBC understands.

His daughter, Corinne Blatter-Andenmatten, is quoted by Swiss Daily Blick (in German) as saying her father's decision "has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with the allegations going around".

SSN reporting the FBI are investigating the award of both world cups! didnt mention that they were investigating blatter himself

wont be long now, japanese bloke was on SSN saying they are weighing up their options on officially calling for a revote

my problem with a revote would be who does the voting, if its the same 204 people (less those accused of things and removed from their position) how many of them will simply vote the same in an attempt to save face? can see it being the exact same result, unless of course both winners are found guilty of wrong doing and not allowed to bid again

The World Cup isnt voted for by all the nations. Its a smaller committee which the President only has the final say on if its a tie. Think about 20 -25 people on it. Beckenbauer and Platini was on it last time
