Well done Levy.

You've now got an ageing and depreciating asset that will struggle to hide his resentment of you for the rest of his days at Spurs.

Should have cashed in on him.

He probably should have but it’s still A win for football , Man City can’t just flex and cherry pick everyone. Also send a message you can’t just force a move while under contract to players

That's the thing isn't it.

The contracts players are given are simply huge now, especially if you're one of the star players in your team.

But it seems so easy for players to get out of them, so in that respect, fair play to Levy.

"You sign it, better be prepared to be held to it".  It's a good message to players that maybe an extra 10/20/30k a week might stop you leaving for those "double your money" contracts Man City seem oh so happy to hand out.

Spurs have offered Wolves £5m to loan Traore for the season, with an option to buy next summer.

There really is no end to how much Levy tries to take the piss.

Imagine if they offered us something similar for Watkins. How to weaken another team in the league, whilst not actually giving them the means to replace the player that has been loaned out.

Thankfully Wolves rejected it.

If have snapped Spurs hands off. £5m loan fee is great money for a fringe player.

We paid £11m for Barkley

Really? That’s insane if true.
Maybe the “buy it at the end if you’re happy” is lower if the upfront is very high. Chelsea obviously thought there was a good chance we’d walk away.

£11m is crazy money for a risky loan, I’m really surprised Villa went for that.

That included wages.

I believe we paid a £5m fee to loan Axel this season though.

According to the bits of information available out there Barkley loan was £11m (including wages) and Tuanzebe is  £5m (also including wages).

That explains why Smith felf obliged to play Barkley even when he was clearly not fit and useless.

There's an argument that this was the summer to sell Kane.

He's 28 now, with not too long left in his prime, he has ongoing concerns with his ankles, massive wage demands and has developed this obsession with trying to prove he can play a deeper role that he's not the same player in.

Next summer, he'll be 29, if he misses a month with injury or has a season that's a touch off his best, his value will plummet.

It was important for Spurs to keep him, not because of the player, but because of the club, Spurs 'bigness' is built on rocky foundations, it's supported by the big stadium and the ides that they can keep star players - losing Kane this summer would have put doubt into that status and if doubt creeps into that status, they're a hairs breadth away from being the Newcastle of the South.

They've kept him and they can still claim to be a huge club off the back of that, but they're left with a very expensive player who may already be past his best.

Yup, £100.000k/w and the rest in loan fee.

Traore is apparently only on £46k/w

It would be, but he's not a fringe player, he played 37 appearances last season and started both of their games this season. £5m for their first choice winger is properly taking the piss.

Yeah, possibly.
I thought he had made a lot of those appearances as a late impact sub but probably not the case.

I don’t rate him at all. One of those players that gets a lot of hype but doesn’t have much to back it up with.
If he moves for £40m it’s one for the games gone thread.

Couldn't agree more, I think he'd be expensive at hal the price, Wolves could do much better with £40m in their pocket, I'd think, but £5m isn't going to do a damn thing for them.

Those 37 appearances last season worked out at about 70 minutes per game though, so definitely a regular member of the first 11 and it'd be madness to lose a regular first team player for the season for that kind of money.

Genuine question: why does Levy not get the respect he arguably deserves for how he’s managed Spurs?

We all look at Leicester as the model to follow but why does no one look at Spurs as a model? When he took over in 2001 they’d finished 12th in the league and weren’t seen as a major force at all. Since then, he’s turned them into a club which regularly competes for the top 4, at times has competed for the PL, and reached a CL final. And he’s done all that without an absolute ton of money at his disposal (unlike all the other money bag top 6).

Do people just dislike him cause he’s a tough negotiator?

Because Spurs have done nothing really under him. He **** up the Berbatov, Bale sales that sent the team backwards. When a manager does something impressive he sacks them for an improvement that doesnt work out.

Harry got 4th sacked for AVB, Poch gets Champions League final sacked for Jose. 2 disastrous moves

Just to add to that, he also got them new stadium that is regarded as the best in the land.

They also won a trophy under him (League Cup) while teams like Villa and Everton, that were of similar statue to Spurs when he took over, failed to win anything this century.
